The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Downtown
The largest area of the city, Downtown is rich with historical and iconic sites in Boston. Stroll through one of Boston’s most famous green spaces, the Boston Public Gardens, check out and make way for duckling statues, picnic under a beautiful tree overlooking the pond, and walk over the iconic footbridge where, during summer time, you will catch a swan boat toting children and eager tourists through the pond. Have your camera ready to capture its peaceful beauty in the middle of a bustling city. Continue on through the Gardens and take in some open green space at the Boston Common, where you can spend time throwing a frisbee, sitting on a park bench, or, in the winter time, skating on the frog pond. Head north from the end of the Common to see the golden dome of the State House, and travel through government center to Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall, both a historic and popular destination worth a quick visit for a first time to Boston. Head to Long Wharf to visit the Aquarium, or catch a boat to Charlestown or even Cape Cod.

This place is great. They were just opened and running around like crazy, but did an amazing job, and really made everyone feel great. The food was excellent, stew, shepherds pie, chicken all great. Great tap selection, wines were good. They have these things called curry fries, with a curry sauce…you MUST order them. We then went back for Sunday brunch, it was even better and the Irish Coffee was outstanding! We stay nearby for our trips there, this is on the “must go every time” short list.

Great craft brews, and the Shepherd’s Pie is amazing. It's a crowded little place with a homey atmosphere and amazing food. My daughter and I had flown in late afternoon, got to our hotel nearby, and searched online for a close place to eat. I made the reservation, we walked in, and we were seated immediately. It happened to be my birthday. I couldn't have chosen a better place to celebrate.

Stopped in on a cold, rainy night and had the best French onion soup EVER. Also had potato skins which were decent. I should have gone for the bowl of soup and called it quits...it was THAT good!

I rarely write mediocre and negative reviews but we were SO excited to go to Emmet’s... and it was simply a massive let down.

First, the good stuff. The atmosphere was really lively and very typical of such a pub in Ireland. We should know having visited there many times. The Guinness was also delicious. And the lady that serviced us was lovely too. It was grubby and rustic around the edges but again, that’s standard for an Irish pub.

So, to the food. My wife loves fish and chips. And she said hers was terrible. Her plate was well worked through by the end... but that’s because I ate most of it as my chicken pot pie wasn’t great. Almost like a very creamy veg soup with virtually no chicken and a lonely pastry top. Didn’t feel authentic or traditional at all. We have been to the west coast, south and north east of Ireland. So maybe it’s typical of somewhere in the centre. Benefit of the doubt.

The kids had sausage and mash, which went down well. But one of us had salmon that was so overcooked it was left untouched by everyone. It was however kindly taken off the bill.

Maybe we just got very unlucky. It was a bit busy but nevertheless, it wasn’t anywhere near what we expected.

Unlikely to return, which is sad as this place is does have much going for it.

We had initially passed by going to another place, but when that didn't work out, we headed to Emmet's. Live fiddle music was a nice touch. Drinks were expensive but about the norm in this area. The food looked and smelled good but we did not order anything.

Fairly standard Irish type pub in Boston, where there are of course a veritable swarm of Irish pubs.

Nothing wrong with that at all but they tend to become a blur after a while.

Emmet's is probably a little quieter than some, has a nice menu, friendly staff and is good value for money.

We choose Emmet's because of the fantastic reviews on Trip Advisor and were so glad we did! We sat at the seat right in the front window/bar area which was wonderful. We ordered fish and chips, and cottage pie. The cottage pie was out of this world, piping hot! The bar tender also recommended a flight of Irish Whiskeys which were really good. Our waitress was an adorable young lady from Ireland! It was really fun chatting to her and set the "Irish" ambience! You can't go wrong with Emmet's.

Warm and welcoming pub. Lovely waitress who looked after us really well - nothing was too much trouble. We had the rib-eye steak which was delicious and the Emmet burger which was very tasty. Good value and good honest pub food. Go there!

The shepherd's pie is beef not lamb but it one of the best I've had in my life. I've had it in 3 countries and it is second only to the one I had in Scotland. The waitress also had an Irish accent and it was so nice to hear. Made me miss Ireland. If I ever go back to Boston this will be a stop for sure.
