Wonderful tour today with Michael the Redcoat. He has a wonderful sense of humor and great passion for teaching history. He also teaches at the college level so he brings a great emphasis on evidence-based history rather than popular mythology. We especially enjoyed his great sense of humor. Who knew history could be so much fun?!

The best personal tour that you can take! Our guide was an historian/professor and his take on Boston history was extremely interesting, fun, creative, thought-provoking, and informative. It's a great tour to take at any time during your stay, because you will definitely learn something new A wonderful way to learn Boston. You will plot your next move, based on... More

I took the tour and loved it. I'm a tour guide myself and very picky about what I think is a good quality tour. It was intelligent, informative, historic, organized, and really interesting. I highly recommend it.

Came to Boston for a visit with our teenage son- this tour tied with Fenway for him as the highlight of our trip. HUGE praise from a sports freak kid who would have been happy only seeing Fenway. For me, it was an excellent primer for other revolutionary sites in and around Boston. Michael debunks myth and provides a rich... More

Michael (dressed as a redcoat) was our tour guide and he was excellent. His tour was down to earth, funny and informative. He mentioned he is a history teacher, I bet the kids in his class love him. Highly recommend the freedom trail as an activity, and even better if you can get into a tour with Michael.

Michael Szkolka walked us through many great historic places along the Freedom Trail and provided great insight about the American Revolution with the right amount of humor and interesting facts that you simply can't get by doing the tour by yourself. I definitely recommend doing a guided tour and I definitely recommend doing it through the Lessons on Liberty Tour.

Fun, informative, and really engaging. I had an absolute blast, and would recommend it to anyone. In fact, I may do this tour with some friends the next time I'm in Boston.

These guys are historians first, guides second. They painted a colorful picture of landmark historical events, made plenty of time for questions, and had us roaring in laughter at one point. Imagine Robin Williams giving a historically accurate tour.... That's what it was like. Loved it

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
The largest area of the city, Downtown is rich with historical and iconic sites in Boston. Stroll through one of Boston’s most famous green spaces, the Boston Public Gardens, check out and make way for duckling statues, picnic under a beautiful tree overlooking the pond, and walk over the iconic footbridge where, during summer time, you will catch a swan boat toting children and eager tourists through the pond. Have your camera ready to capture its peaceful beauty in the middle of a bustling city. Continue on through the Gardens and take in some open green space at the Boston Common, where you can spend time throwing a frisbee, sitting on a park bench, or, in the winter time, skating on the frog pond. Head north from the end of the Common to see the golden dome of the State House, and travel through government center to Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall, both a historic and popular destination worth a quick visit for a first time to Boston. Head to Long Wharf to visit the Aquarium, or catch a boat to Charlestown or even Cape Cod.
