Mike had a solid grasp on the history behind the areas visited during the tour. Also, his connection and correlation with present time events while describing historic events brought the storytelling to life. Fun tour, great information. Will go again. Patrick D.

Michael provided a thoughtful and funny tour of old Boston, asking us to think about history, based on science, skepticism, and facts, and not just to believe the folk history handed down to us. Great tour. Highly recommended.

Excellent, witty, provocative, poignant and charming guide. Worth the 90 minutes for a real, unvarnished dose of American history.

My husband and I went on the tour which was led by a terrific guide whose day job is a professor at an area college. Was a walking history class. Highly recommend.

Our family thoroughly enjoyed this tour guided by Michael Szkolka who is a historian and a college professor. He has extensive knowledge of the period of our founding fathers and clearly enjoys educating others on the early American struggle for independence. He has a wry sense of humor which made the tour that much more enjoyable. Ask for him!

We took a tour on a Saturday afternoon with a couple friends from out of town and couldn't have had a more enjoyable experience. Michael Szkolka was our tour guide and he was great. He is a local history teacher and was very informative throughout the tour along with throwing in a couple of really good jokes. My one complaint... More

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful experience on the Lessons on Liberty tour. Michael the Red Coat was our tour guide and he kept us engaged on the tour and showed us all of the important stops on the freedom trail. This was our first time in Boston and we learned a lot about the history of the city... More

This walking tour is excellent. It is engaging, informative and extremely interesting. Our historian, Michelle, was absolutely wonderful and was a wealth of information. She made the tour exciting and fun as well.

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
The largest area of the city, Downtown is rich with historical and iconic sites in Boston. Stroll through one of Boston’s most famous green spaces, the Boston Public Gardens, check out and make way for duckling statues, picnic under a beautiful tree overlooking the pond, and walk over the iconic footbridge where, during summer time, you will catch a swan boat toting children and eager tourists through the pond. Have your camera ready to capture its peaceful beauty in the middle of a bustling city. Continue on through the Gardens and take in some open green space at the Boston Common, where you can spend time throwing a frisbee, sitting on a park bench, or, in the winter time, skating on the frog pond. Head north from the end of the Common to see the golden dome of the State House, and travel through government center to Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall, both a historic and popular destination worth a quick visit for a first time to Boston. Head to Long Wharf to visit the Aquarium, or catch a boat to Charlestown or even Cape Cod.
