What a fun place! We enjoyed the interactive exhibits and the opportunity to see the original Massachusetts colony charter, Declaration of Independence, and Bill of Rights. Stunning, really. We also had the opportunity to see the copper plate that was the the template for the very famous print of the Boston Massacre. Lots to do, a great cell phone tour,... More

Very small museum, free admission/parking, highlight was seeing copies of original Constitution. Hands on activities for the kids. It took us just under 30 mins to complete exhibits. Nice to do after the JFK Presidential library/museum which is across the parking lot.

It's a very interesting museum and my daughters liked its interaction, to be able to play questions and answers. The workers were also very helpful. Worth a 2-hours visit.

This museum exhibits a detailed historical view of Massachusetts. We are so versed on our Pilgrim heritage and revolutionary history that sometimes we neglect the other events in history that helped shape our commonwealth. The Treasurer's exhibit of historical documents is extraordinary. I was a little disappointed in not seeing any exhibit on the shoe industry- maybe an add on... More

Definitely come here before or after JFK museum! This is a small museum and the staff is very friendly. Willing to explain and answer questions as well as turn on the short intro movie. The museum itself is only about 1-2 rooms with a permanent exhibit on the top floor. Much of the information is based on Massachusetts colony, civics... More

After visiting the JFK Library, we walked over to the Commonwealth Museum out of curiosity. The twelve minute film that they showed us was a little strange as it focused on numerous parts of the Commonwealth's history and seemed a little scattered. The Declaration of Independence and other documents were really awesome! The actual exhibits were informative, too.

Before stopping over at the Kennedy Library, we went to the Commonwealth Museum since it was so close. Parking is free but limited. We got in early and were welcomed by a friendly staff. Though small (about an hour is a safe bet to see everything), the Museum is great for teachers. If you're an artifact hunter, its not the... More

The compact but comprehensive Commonwealth Museum is located in the State Archives building directly next to the JFK Library and Edward M. Kennedy Institute, and adjacent to the UMass Boston campus which is south of downtown Boston, just off Morrissey Blvd. The one criticism I had was that the museum was open only on weekdays but, happily, the hours now... We heard about this new museum and had to go see. Even with a GPS navigation system it was hard to find - 1. GPS navigation ended before destination. 2. All the construction work around U Mass 3. No signs, even near the building - it's actually inside the Archives building opposite the Kennedy Library. Once we got there the... More
