Asheville seems like one of those areas where artists can make a living from their art alone, and the River Arts District is proof. There is all sorts of talent on display here. Must see to believe.

A favorite thing to do in the RAD! Great fun, great art and great people! Go any day but especially go when there's an event!

I've been to Asheville's River Arts District several times and will probably go back many more. It is an easy, no-stress outing that allows you to see local art at your own pace and without any pressure to buy something or to be hit with hidden costs. Basically, you walk from shop to shop, studio to studio, venue to venue... More

Currently it's not that difficult to find parking - you might have to hunt around a bit. Once you've parked, get out your map and wander around checking out the different galleries and studios. The artists are all mostly very welcoming and not expecting you to spend money. Many love to talk about life, art and lots of other subjects.... More

Artists using various media spread out on both sides of railroad tracks. Need time to see more than a few.

Variety of art work on display for you to just browse, purchase, or even get in on the actual making. Off the beaten path but well worth a look. Best of all it is free.

The River Arts District is fun with lots to see and do. If you like art galleries, eateries, lot of beer places - then River Arts District is for you. You can easily spend a full day down there.

However, you need to make sure everyone in your group appreciates art. Our friend would up at a bar for most of the afternoon. You get to visit (and shop) multiple artist workshops. Many of the artists are working during the day. There is a large variety of types of art. Most of the artists are very good at their... More

Only spent an afternoon there, but enjoyed it very much. Lots and lots of great art to see, and the a few good spots to sit and get something to drink or eat while you're exploring.
