We stopped into Biscayne National Park’s visitor center expecting to maybe watch a video and get the kids’ books stamped, which we did, but also learned about a plankton lab we could participate in and our family of 5 was pleasantly surprised and pleased with the activity. After collecting a water sample with the ranger, we each sat with our own microscope to find and identify plankton. If visiting Biscayne or Everglades NP, I’d suggest calling the visitor center to check if the lab will be taking place as it was not on the website calendar, but really made the stop.

Loved this visitors center and what it had to offer. It's a great picnic'ing spot for the people who live in the area and welcome to locals and visitors alike. The visitor's center is jam-packed with exhibits and information about the park and its formation. There are walks around the park and a small operational mariner from which to take tours.
It is a coup for the national park service to have this park, protected from oil and energy businesses who warm the ocean waters with their water waste. Biscayne's harsh climate attracted free Black people who were shut out of opportunity because of Homesteading. There is the story of Israel Jones, the Jones family, and Arthur and Lancelot, who because of their dedication likely saved the national park and much of the key ecosystem, when refusing to sell out their own privately owned key to businesses who wanted to build bridges. He did eventually sell it to the national park that LBJ eventually commissed.

Really great visitor's center with helpful staff and volunteers, a short beautiful walk on the water, and great activities. We loved talking with Francisco about coral and the park, as well as our kayaking trip with Eliza.

We didn’t know exactly what Biscayne National Park had to offer and figured that the VC was the place to start. We learned that not just 90% of the park is located in the water, its more like 98% of the park is located in the water. The visitor center has a few displays from 1700’s shipwrecks that are near, but the only trail near the VC is closed for reconstruction currently. Friendly people, however if you are someone who is not into water activities there is not too much here to do.
