They have small exhibits that educate about the plants, animals, geology, and history of Big Bend. We didn’t watch the movie, but there is a small theater inside. They sometimes have ranger walks, which seems like it might be good for kids, but check ahead...More

This is a great place to start with an orientation to the movie of big bend. The junior ranger program is a must do. Just look out for very long lines and one ranger on duty. You maybe better off with going to Rio Grande...More

For those of you reading this that haven't yet been to Big Bend: the park property is HUGE. Seriously - it's more than 1,200 square miles. So know which part of the park you're in and group your hikes together that way! You wouldn't want...More

We entered Big Bend NP through the Persimmon Gap entrance but the visitor center was closed so we traveled to Panther Junction. It is a great place to start your visit to BBNP. It has most of what you want on a visitor center. Park...More

This is a National Park Visitor Center. No better or worse than any other such visitor center I've been to. Rangers on duty to answer questions and sell souvenirs. An interesting video about the park and region. Restrooms.

Fairly typical National Park Visitor Center. Ranger there was more interested in comparing trail stories with the youthful eco warriors who were there rather than the two seniors who wanted some information. Got snarky when we asked about scenic drives rather than hiking. The water...More

There is a Walmart before you reach the park and another gas station next to Panther Junction Visitor Center (but they are frequently out of fuel). Terlingua gas station would be your next best choice.
