We took a tour of the grounds of the historical museum with a delightful and very, very knowledgeable couple from the Los alamos historical society. They took us through the grounds and homes of historical figures of the Los alamos project. They were adept at answering questions and giving us insights into the people who lived and worked on the... More

We thoroughly enjoyed this small museum, located in the former infirmary of the boys' school that was taken over by the government during WWII to serve as the laboratory where the atomic bomb was developed. The people working there were well-informed and willing to talk about the town's history. The museum also has a better-than-average selection of books about Los... More

This is a gem of a museum! I was vaguely aware of the Manhattan Project, and this made it real. We could have easily spent more time as there is so much to see and read. We actually returned after going to the Bradbury Science Museum, which was also interesting.

Small museum but packed with history of the area. Free admission, worth stopping even if you only have a 1/2 hour. Could spend and hour or two if you wanted, plenty to look at.

This is a small museum that is located right next to the Bradbury museum & details Los alamos' history well from the Indians & their use of solar energy, the the ranch school & the eventual take over for development of nuclear weapon! There are tons of fun artifacts at this free museum!

It is a small museum, but you can learn a lot about the Los Alamos history. Few rooms dedicated to Project Manhattan. I also think that it is just a start. To get more knowledge, visit also Science Museum.

We just stumbled on this little museum after visiting the Bandelier National Monument. What a great discovery it was. It had some fascinating stories about this school/early Boy Scout experience being turned into the centre for the Manhattan Project. Very, very interesting, and also interesting to see how the Research Centre is still functioning and doing some very important research.... More

Great piece of WWII history. This museum is small, but has a lot of information about the secret Manhattan Project. This project was so secretive that one of the people, Harlow Russ, who was asked to join the effort said this, "anyone would be crazy to turn down an offer to go to an unknwn location to do unspecified work... We visited the museum in September as a side trip from Santa Fe, NM. Great exhibits, and films about the Manhattan project.

If you enjoy WW II history - with a touch of Boy Scout history - stop by this museum. Focuses on the far distant past of the area thru the boy's ranch that preceded the Manhattan Project and the Bomb Project itself. In reading some of the personal accounts and letters written by civilians and military folks right after the... More
