The Los Alamos Historical Society preserves, promotes, and communicates the remarkable history and inspiring stories of Los Alamos and its people for our community, for the global audience, and for future generations. These stories are told in the multiple buildings of the Los Alamos History Museum through exhibits on the Ancestral Pueblo people, the homestead era, the Los Alamos Ranch School, the Manhattan Project, and the Cold War. The museum includes a gift shop and is open from 9-5 weekdays and 10-4 on weekends.

Worth the trip North from Santa Fe! You'll learn about the start of Los Alamos and it's history with the first atomic bombs! Very cool!

We paired a visit here with a trip to the Bradbury Science Museum; the latter covers in more detail the Manhattan Project. The Los Alamos History Museum is “just enough” history for the visitor-it will take 1-2 hours and you will see the very interesting...More

It's difficult to find, at least it was for us. It looks like a cabin from the outside, bit it's bigger than you think. It gives a nice detailed look at the "Manhattan project" and the people that worked on it and how the lived....More

This is a thriving modern town now, with most of historical value taken down after the project succeeded and was all but shut down. This museum adds a glimpse into what once happened here. It was both brilliant and terrible at once, so it's removal...More

We enjoyed seeing the museum. It is worth going to see the information on Manhattan Project. We would have enjoyed seeing the area this took place. The walking tour we took from this museum was the best part. Our guide was very knowledgeable and did...More

Staffed by volunteers, this museum is a good introduction to both the history of the area before the Manhattan Project and the history of that project itself. It is an excellent introduction if your visit co-incides with one of the guided tours by a volunteer....More

This is a more folksy operation than the Bradbury Science musuem. But it's right around the corner and tells a more intimate story of the daily life that has populated the Los Alamos area from the anasazi indians through the manhattan project.

My wife and I have spent the last year traveling the world, visiting historical destination connected to WWII. Our most recent was the museum at Los Alamos. This was where the first Atomic Bomb was developed, with two later versions used to bring an end...More

I wonder if any of the visitors to this museum actually opened their eyes or really went in the doors. There were three rooms one had pictures of science prize winners (and other prizes) pictured, but I don't believe any of these were related to...More
