Most beautiful nature spot close to Washington DC

This park is great for picnicking, hiking, climbing, and very advanced kayaking (Olympic level kayaking)

A park? Why do I want to go to a park? Because it has the most beautiful waterfalls you can imagine. That is why. It really is gorgeous. If you are in Great Falls or Tyson's Corner you should go see the falls.

The Great Falls of the Potomac is just outside DC. For just $10 parking fee, you'll see the admittedly picturesque Great Falls. However, approaching the viewing deck can be a challenge for small children, elderly and the physically challenged since you have to climb rocks to get the views you see in the pictures. There are a lot of hiking... More

I grew up in the area, moved away and came back to visit in November. We picked an exceptionally chilly day, but the place was PACKED! But really, the people inside the park weren't a problem and everyone seemed to be enjoying ourselves, but the wait to get in to the park I thought was awfully slow. Overall it's a... More

I feel like this is an underrated spot. The drive to it is very pretty and even though we went on the windiest, coldest day, we got amazing photos and loved the visit. It has easy access to the views- so children & elderly can also enjoy. It's also FREE!

One of my favorite parks on the East coast, Great Falls park provides breath taking views of the falls on the Potomac River, fun hiking trails for people of all skill levels, and the perfect place for a family picnic. There is not a playground, but plenty of room to bring a frisbee or kick a ball around. No camping... More

Came here with family and loved it so much! Stunning views, nice nature trails, educational visitor center! Everyone there was like happy town, people smiling everywhere you look. So peaceful and clean. Fresh mountain air. Can't wait to return in the summer!

I decided to go to this park on a recent trip to the DC area. I had a nice, relaxing hike with great views of the rapids. This made for a perfect Sunday afternoon. Next time I visit this park I would like to try white water rafting and repelling- we saw several people doing these activities (even kids) and... More

Great Falls Park is popular with locals, and like Riverbend Park nearby, is a place to take visitors who want a respite from DC tourist attractions.

Great Falls Park is a very beautiful set of falls about an half an hour north of downtown D.C. Ran the National Park Service, it is very well maintained and is a great escape near the hustle and bustle of Washington.
