From the prominence of Dead Horse Point, 2,000 feet above a gooseneck in the Colorado River, an ever changing landscape unfurls. Immense vertical cliffs meet with canyons carved by ice, water and wind creating a visual masterpiece. Plants and animals surviving on the edge of existence face many challenges of extreme conditions within this high desert environment. Stories of ancient hunters, resting along the cliff tops while knapping chert in preparation for the next hunt, and cowboys of the late 1800's, chasing wild mustangs onto Dead Horse Point, using the narrow neck to block off the natural corral . What story will you discover on your visit to Dead Horse Point State Park?

Absolutely stunning. I could of spent hours just sitting and taking in the views. It was my favorite park on our trip. Thelma and Louise famous Cadillac going over the cliff was filmed here. I can't say enough good about this park!

Love Dead Horse Point. One of my favorite things about it is you can spend a day hiking around, or if you only have a short amount of time you can quickly take in all the incredible views and get some great pictures in under an hour.

We traveled here in December 2016 and did the four mile loop hike that goes on either side of the highway. The park is very well cared for and the ranger was very nice, helpful. The exhibit is great at the visitors center. We hope to go back.

Most of the people I met were on bikes, but this is definitely a great hike too! Bring plenty of water and a snack though it's long. Just gorgeous!

The views are so beautiful from this park! They really do take your breath away. We have done some hiking here, but we also visited with my parents and kept it more low key. It's one great place to see parts of the Colorado River from up above and also a neat place to view the cool looking potash pools... More

It was great to see in winter when not crowded. If you are traveling with a dog, this is a really nice place to stop where you can have them on leash between visits to Arches and Canyonlands, where the rules are far more restrictive and they are constrained to parking lots. Breathtaking views even with little to no walking.... More

I'm very happy we stopped here to eat our lunch on our tour. What a place! We were a little on edge, literally. The consequences of a bad decision would be fatal. Sitting to take in the scenery was the best choice for sure, especially as it was a bit windy. We didn't stay long enough to explore far as there... More
