Fun drive with fantastic view of La Sal Mountain

The drive up to La Sal Mountain loop was fun. We saw cows along the way and it was fun to watch them. We could see the view up close of La Sal Mountain. The temperature dropped when we were up high. It was nice and cool as we drove up. It was like we were in different country with... More

I have enjoyed the red rock pleasures of Moab for many years but this time my son and I decided to shake it up a little. The La Sal mountains loop is 60 miles of mixed beauty from red rock to alpine beauty and back down to Castle Valley by the Colorado River. If you are looking for a break... More

Follow the entire La Sal Loop off of Old Air Port Rd. approximately 5 miles south of Moab and follow it as it curves back around to the north following the Colorado River. The drive will provide outstanding views of both the mountains and valleys below.

We did the Colorado river drive up to Castle Valley & then returned to Moab via the La Sal Mountain loop -- admittedly in the rain for the latter portion. It was tedious & we had to stop several times to let the cattle clear off the road.

This stop is so convenient that there is no imaginable reason to skip it. The viewpoint offers vistas of the distant La Sal Mountains, which may even be snow-capped in the colder months. We visited during the summer and enjoyed it anyway.

If you are driving south to Moab and have the time to take this loop, I would recommend it. The scenery on this loop is very different than what is usually seen in the Moab area. This loop takes you up into more mountainous areas with cooler temperatures and different vistas. Worth a side trip.

The snow covered LaSal mountains rising above the hot, red rock desert are such a vivid contrast, and so close. It was quite hot in the Moab area in June,so it was nice to go up in the mountains where it is actually cool, And very green, lots of flowers and aspen trees. Wish we had time to hike up... More

A cool getaway when it is really hot. Warner Lake side trip (5 miles in on good gravel road) is a nice place for a picnic and short (or long) hike. Take a few extra mile side trip towards Gateway, Colorado to Burro Pass Dinosaur Tracks Overlook. Find the dino tracks near the gravel/rock-lined trail. Then walk out to the... More

Gorgeous views and cooler temps as you venture into the mountains near Moab. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip on this loop into the higher elevation and along the Colorado river.
