This impressive statue is unfortunately installed in a sea of traffic and parking. Nearby are the wonderful Asian Art Museum and City Hall.

We saw Pioneer Monument (not "Pioneer's" Monument) en route to City Hall. The monument is easy on the eyes and has a nice location, but it's not exceptional. If you tour City Hall, this attraction is only a short walk away.

This is a very nice well kept monument. Beautiful greenery surrounding it. But to get to this monument you must navigate a gauntlet of homeless and mentally ill. This part of San Francisco is overrun by them.

This enormous bronze statue atop a stone pedestal rests in the middle of a traffic circle formed by Fulton Street, between Asian Art Museum and SF Library. It’s a landmark nestled between parks, the Civic Center and City Hall. The monument is impressive, but is more of a landmark than an attraction. From this point, there are many TripAdvisor-identified attractions... More

A nice imposing monument situated just outside City Hall celebrating the early pioneers of San Francisco, hence the name.

Do walk by the grand City Hall building and the impressive Pioneer Monument while doing a walking tour of San Francisco. But avoid the nearby stretch of Market Street. To continue your city walking tour to the east, take a route that will not put you on Market Street until you are closer to the visitor center near the intersection... More

I've seen a lot of statues and monuments over the years and must say this one is quite impressive indeed. The detail and size are striking. Worth a stop to observe and take some photos.

This nearly 1000 ton monument used to be located near the corner of Hyde and Grove Sts. It was moved around the year 2000 to its present location on Fulton St. to make room for the then new Main Branch of the San Francisco Public Library. There has been some controversy about the monument because of how it depicts Native... More

This sometimes controversial monument is in the Civic Center area of San Francisco. The pioneer monument was sculpted by Frank Happersberger. In the monument he depicts many of he pioneers who were important in California history. Integrated into the monument are the pioneer John Sutter, John Fremont, Sir Francisco Drake, Father Junipero Serra, James Lick, General Valllejo, James Marshall, Juan... More
