This free children's Museum is located on a hill with commanding views over the city of San Francisco .
Exhibits include a large train set up in the basement.
Many animals exhibits are vacant.
There is a small cafe area.

My husband and I loved this museum! There was a great variety of things to see - some live animals, model trains, environmental education. We learnt a lot in our time there. It looks like they offer various arts and construction workshops - would have been great to attend one, if we were here longer. The staff were very knowledgeable and clearly passionate about what they do and nature in their area. We also enjoyed a light meal from the cute cafe - while overlooking San Francisco. The view up there is incredible.

Lovely little museum with everything a kid could want: live animals, rocks, hands on experiences, model trains, and a little play caboose!

The museum is located on Corona Heights Park and focuses on the cultures & environments of Bay Area SF. Museum is mainly for education of children , which includes workshops of arts , science, crafts & nature.
Museum has three floors, the exhibits are on main & lower levels, whereas upper level is reserved for class rooms.
The California inhabitants display at main level is worth watching. Also the toy train at lower levels is source of attraction for children.
We appreciate the creativity & curiosity generated during our visit to this place.

The location of museum is awesome!

It is a museum for children, but they let adults in too. Of interest were the collection about Native American basket weaving, the model railroad, the sections on geology and natural history of California, and the California wildlife collection with its live animals. We came face to face with a California tarantula and a few snakes. There is a delightful place serving good coffee and food. Fabulous views of the City, of course. Easy to walk on up to Corona Heights afterwards, and to the Vulcan and Saturn staircases too, which makes for a great half-day excursion overall.

Although San Francisco has many large, popular museums throughout the city, this recently renovated local museum has many exhibits that relate to local animals, art, and nature. Lots of hands-on activities for children to participate in as well as a small theater that has various shows throughout the year. A wonderful train exhibit fascinates young and old on the bottom floor along with new exhibits such as crystals and hands-on exploration. Various workshops (woodworking and ceramics to name two) are offered as well.
NOTE: Admission is free, but donations are accepted (and well deserved)!

The Randall Museum offers Cinema nights every Friday. They host other events as well.
In the way of Museums go, the Randall Museum is rather sub-par.

The Randall Museum has finally finished its renovation, and it was worth waiting for!
This small, hands-on museum has something for everyone including workshops and theater for older kids. Our 5 year old granddaughter loved the live animal exhibit and the new “basket weaving” area. Downstairs are several new exhibits as well as the hands-on train track (bring a few of your own “Thomas” trains or rent them for $3 for 30 minutes).
The theater offers programs throughout the year (tickets to be purchased) as well as children’s drama workshops. I’ve always found this local museum a small jewel in the city!
Note: there is no admission charge, but a wooden “donation quail” is at the front door (no pressure to donate, but why not?)

This San Francisco treasure usually sits high on top of Corona Heights in the Castro area. This in itself is a great geological site where Seirra Plate collides with Pacific Plate. If you are not into geology, climbing to the top to(Gods Thumb) gives you one of the best views of San Francisco.
Museum is currently (June 2016)under restoration do check the web page Randallmuseum.org for temporary locations.
The museum is a great space for family art and science fun on Saturdays
Check their schedule to see what is going on .There big attractions for kids is the small collection of animals and a petting area filled with chickens, rabbits and a goat.

Best for kids under 10
