Neat little rocky park. Almost-360 view, excepting the high points of twin peaks to the east. Probably great for the sunset too. Start with the 16th ave steps and continue up, can come down the other side instead of you like (a bus stop is just a couple blocks away).

After climbing the decorative stairways in the area we decided to make one more climb and hike up stairs to Grand View Park. This park is located in the inner Sunset District of San Francisco and we were lucky enough to find parking at the base of the steps up to the top at Noriega Street and 15th Avenue. There are about 3-4 parking spots here, it was our lucky day. It’s approximately 110 steps up to the path, close to the top of the hill. It’s well worth the climb if you have a day like today. The weather is very unpredictable in S.F. with frequent clouds, fog and occasional rain in the winter months. Today was perfect.

Another place I never knew about even though I grew up in San Francisco until I searched for sights in the Sunset District.

Grand View Park has pretty much 360 degree views of San Francisco so this is a great place to come on a clear day.

Reaching it is not easy. It is situated above a residential neighborhood and has very limited parking - which is at the bottom of seriously steep steps requiring a fairly long climb. Closest way is using the Moraga steps at 14th and Moraga. Longer way is to use the 16th Street Tiled Stairs ( another sight worth visiting in any case).

Once you've caught your breath at the top of the stairs there are dirt paths around the top. You do need to watch your steps as these paths include areas of tree trunks and rocks.

These paths lead to wondrous views.

Unfortunately the area at the top is limited and there is only one bench. During my visit, a fellow was enjoying the fresh air and views while reading his book.

We arrived on a cloudy, cold, windy day...and yet we loved the view. You gave out toward the ocean and can see all over the city and bay. Just spectacular. If you go to see the 16th Ave. Tiled stairway, be sure to walk up the road a little bit and then up the wooden steps for a gorgeous view.

You will get a panoramic view of San Francisco from here by climbing up some steep and decorated stairs.

This was the last stop of our Urban Hike! Make sure you start on the far west side so you can go up the Tiled Steps. Just plug in "Tiled Steps" into Google maps. Note: there's only 1 bench to sit on so if you plan on having a picnic, bring something to sit on just in case the bench is taken.

There's no other place in San Francisco to get such a GRAND VIEW of Golden Gate Park. from end to end. The park sits atop an ultra-ancient outcrop of Radiolarian chert. Use the staircase or the less-steep path that circles that hill.

Can be really chilly but take a blanket up to the top. The views of the Pacific Ocean and even the a part of the golden gate bridge are worth it and it isn't usually too crowded.

The Grand View Park is not huge but the view is fantastic on a sunny day. You have to climb up some steps and walk on a short sandy trail, with walking shoes no problem at all. What you expect is stunning. Great place for lunch break with the amazing view of downtown San Francisco and the towers of the Golden Gate Bridge. On a sunny day you may be able to see the Farallon Islands.
You can easily combine the visit of the park with the stairway to heaven if you don’t mind to climb some steps. It was a great spot to take some beautiful photos.
