A must see! Just Beautiful. Historical Landmark by the ocean with spectacular views. We were staying at the Grand Hyatt Union Square and did not have a car. Convenient to the bus line, its a straight cross town ride. Bring water, maybe a light jacket (it was windy) and comfortable walking shoes.
Note if you go to the Sutra Baths, you should make the time to hike some of the trails especially to the Lands End Labyrinth.

Do yourself a favor and add this to your bucket list for one of the best sunset spots in the city. The sky and horizon will change colors by the minute and when the sky is dark enough you will see the sparkling stars and maybe even a planet or two (download any stargazing app) on a clear night. You won't regret it!

This is an historic place in San Francisco. It was a popular day trip destination back in the day when it was a bath house. Research it if you're a history buff. There are a lot of steps back up to the parking lot, so take your time. Free parking, gift shop, and bathrooms available.

This formed part of my visit to Sutro Heights and Land's end trail. The nice descent to the baths was crisscrossed by garden paths and steps amidst beautiful flowers. Add to these, the view of the Pacific, and you can imagine how soothing the experience has been.

This can be a challenging site to visit due to the rather steep walking trail, but you can find places to sit & rest along the way. I use a cane to walk & made the round trip down to & back from the caves. My wife & youngest daughter accompanied me, & so I would recommend that if you are senior with some disability (like myself) that you have @ least one companion for the walk. There are many younger visitors @ the site doing some of the more difficult trails that vein through the site, & all of these young adults that we encountered were polite, helpful, & serious about their particular exercise challenge. Once on site, there are plenty of natural level ruins of rock & concrete on which to sit & enjoy the view of the ocean crashing onto the two small aviary islands that form a corridor around the attraction. Well worth the walking if you take your time & really enjoy the scene. Inside one of the caves are two cut-outs that allow you to see the ocean rushing into & out of the indentations in the cave wall. Floor of caves damp sand, but otherwise no obstacles. Suggest you take advantage of this attraction to have lunch @ the Cliff House restaurant, which is adjacent to the Sutro bath attraction. The restaurant is outstanding, & you will be able to burn off some of the calories that you will store as a result of some of the best food in San Francisco.

Men, I am going to give you the cheapest, yet romantic and Awesome date you will ever be able to take a girl on. I'm serious, this is the date of dates. Here we go Bros:
Bring a Blanket and a meal in a backpack. Depending on if this is a lunch or a dinner date, pack the meal and drink of your choice. I did this for a lunch date (I did Sandwiches and Capri Suns) and the only way I could see it being better is if there was a sunset and a bottle of wine involved.
Park in the most northern parking lot, towards the Golden Gate Bridge, on El Camino Del Mar. By the USS San Francisco Memorial.
Walk down towards the bridge, take some pics, enjoy the sights, we walked about halfway. Then walk towards the ocean and down towards Point Lobos. Look at it on Google Maps. It's like a 7 minute walk from Point Lobos back up to your car.
Walk down to the bottom platform. It's pretty big. On the South side of the platform you can see down at the Sutro Baths. and the Pacific ocean, big rocks out 150 yards or so into the ocean. It's awesome.
Here is the hard part: If you now look over guard rail there is a Concrete slab on the back side of the platform. You have to crawl over but it is more than enough space for a meal for two.
Take a look at my picture! Seriously a dream date for any girl with a view like this.

Take a bit of a trip away from the middle of town, out to the western extremity of the peninsula. Here, the German-Jewish engineer, entrepreneur and turn-of-the-century mayor of San Francisco Adolph Sutro built a great seawater baths in a cove surrounded by cliffs and woodland. In the 60s, the baths burnt down and now all that remains are the stone foundations, and the cove has returned somewhat to its original state.
It's a breath-taking piece of scenery and there are plenty of signs describing the wildlife that live in the woods, and explaining how this inlet was once used by Native Americans making seasonal use of the beach to catch shellfish and collect food. You can walk on the paths through the protected woodland and gaze out on the pacific. A must-see if you want to see something very different from the urban spread.

The Sutro Baths were opened to the public as the world's largest indoor swimming pool establishment in 1896. They were built on the western side of SF by wealthy entrepreneur and former mayor of San Francisco, Adolph Sutro. The facility burned down in 1966 and is now in ruins and part of the National Park Service. Cool to visit and think about what is was like it the day!

This is the most memorable place I've visited while staying in SF. Go here towards the end of your stay, after doing all the touristy stuff, this will feel like a spa retreat. The air is so fresh, because of the forest, the smell is a mixture of trees and ocean, so delicious. Just walk around, if you are lucky you'll see people climbing trees, its kinda impressive. Otherwise, just go straight to the ruins. If its a sunny day you'll see ocean, birds and beautiful rocks. If its a misty day just find yourself a place to sit and daydream. The whole place looks so dreamy and mysterious! Dont forget to explore the cave on your right side. Take some sandwiches with you, it's a nice place to have picnic. You can also walk through lands end to the Legion of Honor, a gorgeous museum.
Just don't forget your camera, you can take incredible shots there!

Let's start with free parking. A great hike down a lot of stairs to begin with and the a stroll along the water front West of the Golden Gate bridge. Look for "Sutro Sam" the river otter who has taken up residence in the former Sutro Baths. Afterwards stroll down to the Cliff House for a cocktail and watch the sunset.
