The locals call it "the Mish" because it is full of shopping, food, and Latin folks who love meeting new people.

Architecture, street vibe, murals - lots to see in the Mission District. A local person at Fisherman's Wharf had recommended visiting the Mission District and he was right!

The Mission District is a diverse area of the city...once a virtial melting pot of cultures, Chinese, Phillipino, Mexican and Eurooean. Now mostly Hispanic, has many good Mexican and Central American eateries and cultural landmarks.

...and expensive! Couple of good places like Four Barrel Coffee, the best Mexican food joints and bi-rite ice-cream. The graffittis are cool too.

A lot to see in this part of the city and one that is often overlooked. Has a LOT of hills (it's San Francisco, right?) but worth the walk. Enjoyed this neighborhood and we took a tour so we learned more of the history of the area.

Staying in Mission District

Neighbourhood Profile
Mission District
From burritos to bicyclists, the Mission is the foundation for all things hip in the city. Cultural attractions, an independent arts community, sumptuous street murals and a high density of bars and cafes make this neighbourhood a magnet for young people. While terrific inexpensive food is abundant, its top-of-the-line restaurants now compete with the city’s best for fashionable diners. Indulge as the locals do by heading to Mission Dolores Park, buy some ice cream, and savor one of the most diverse neighbourhoods in the country.
