The Real SF Tour offers 4 incredible tours merging sightseeing and trekking...

The Real SF Tour offers 4 incredible tours merging sightseeing and trekking with public transit for the most authentic visitor experience in San Francisco. Part urban adventure, part urban trek, and totally green, The Real SF Tours take you where no other tours can go. You’ll visit enchanted gardens, secret stairways, glorious rooftop views, and some of the city’s coolest neighbourhoods. You’ll be avoiding large crowds of tourists while experiencing the real culture of San Francisco and learning about its rich and storied history. You’ll traverse the city on Cable Cars, Light Rail, and City Buses. You must be able to walk 4 separate uphill 1.5 block sections, there are a total of 6 uphill flights of stairs, and 15 downhill flights of stairs, spread throughout the day. The day encompasses over 5 miles of walking including short uphill sections and hidden stairways that most people find extremely enjoyable. If you do not walk regularly this tour may be more challenging than enjoyable. If you have any difficulty going up and downstairs we do not recommend this tour. Please only wear comfortable closed toe walking shoes. Tours run daily departing from the California St Cable Car turnaround.

I had to harass my husband into letting me book us onto this tour. I'd eyed it up weeks before our trip but it wasn't until we arrived in San Francisco that he finally caved and let me book it (and we were lucky there was space!) His argument was 'we could just do it ourselves...' - well, he's now... More

First things first, they warn you on the website that there is a lot of walking involved, so that is true. It is not as bad as it's made out as you get a lot of resting with the different on and offs from the bus, trolleys, etc.. However, you need to be in decent shape would be my suggestion.... More

Hi LiTS, Thanks for the review. It was a fun day. We did some extra walking do to the March for Science interrupting bus service, however I think your numbers are off a bit. There are no 45 degree hills in San Francisco. In fact the steepest street that we walked (down 1/2 block) was Jones which clocks in at... More

Excellent tour with a very knowledgeable Chris. Great start to our stay in this awesome city, got our bearings so we could pick our areas to revisit. As we are not big "city" lovers we tend to stay and eat in local residential areas so this tour was perfect for us

Excellent! I can't say enough about this tour and Chris! It was so much fun, we hit every area of San Francisco and little back alleys that you would never find on your own. We learned so much and Chris knows so much! It's a great introduction to San Francisco. After you go on this tour, you can spend your... More

Decided to book the Real SF tour after reading the reviews on TA. Was a little worried as we have two girls aged 12 and 14 and the suggested minimum was 14 or 16 but needn't have worried. Chris took our tour and he was knowledgable, witty, informative and a genuine local who knows his city very well. Apart from... More

Chris is a great tour guide. He covers the city in an eclectic, random fashion, following the public transport system, tram, trolley & bus time tables. His pop-culture knowledge of the different areas of SF is fantastic. This is not your usual SF tour. He doesn't bother with fisherman's wharf, Alcatraz, Union Square or any of the other major tourist... More

I'm a corporate event planner so I have HUGE expectations of tour guides and the experience they offer. Chris Courtney (owner & guide) was one of the best I've ever seen. He was funny, knowledgeable and articulate. He gave us facts, history, funny stories, local trivia and a general insight into life here in "SF" (apparently the locals NEVER say... More

This was a great tour! Chris, the founder of The Real SF Tour, served as our guide. He's a native and full of knowledge, stories, and insights. We were relatively familiar with SF, but this was fun to reinforce and add to what we already knew, plus show us some great new places. It's a full-day tour, so plan to... More

Staying in Financial District

Neighbourhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
