Extraordinary views on the outside and a great photo op, but the work inside is a little boring. LOTS of Rodin, which is interesting at first, but there's too many works of the same thing.

I visited San Francisco in December 2016 a week before Christmas. My specific in visiting San Francisco was a special and uniquely rare exhibit of the paintings of the 17th c. Brothers Le Nain, who are famous in art circles for their "peasant" paintings. It was shown at the Legion of Honor in the far western part of the city.... More

the Legion of Honor is situated across from Lincoln Park (which has some great views of Bay) and a permanent display to the left of the museum of a poignant holocaust sculpture. The museum itself has a permanent collection of Rodin sculptures when you first enter, as well a great collection of impressionist and post-impressionist art. Actually its 18th and... More

We took the 38 bus from Union Square out to the Legion of Honor Museum and walked up the hill to museum (Bus 17 actually goes from line 38 to the museum. Excellent collection of Rodin sculptures in upper level (Note: Museum will be highlighting Auguste Rodin: the centenary Installation from Jan 28, 2017 to Dec 31, 2017). Upper Level... More

While there we were surprised with an exhibit of The brothers Le Nain. Wonderful porcelain and China exhibit. We traveled on 3 buses to get there, starting atFisherman's wharf. About an hour. Not a bad ride. We did not eat there, too many people. It was a very rainy day. Nice gift shops. Mummy exhibit was nicely done Tuesday is... More

The museum, part of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco is a must visit. The permanent collection is comprehensive (European decorative art, ancient art) and the special exhibits are always a treat (the Brothers Le Nain and the Madeleine Albright pin collection are currently on display)

Went to see The Brothers Le Nain: Painters of 17th-Century France. Great exhibit, with many paintings from renowned galleries from around the world. Went back and saw my favorite Rodin's, and visit my favorite Rembrandt, Rubens, van Dyck, Monet, and Manets. Great afternoon, with beautiful views of the Golden Gate but a short walk away!

This was my 4th time to the Legion of Honor and I continue to find hidden treasures of this museum. The "Le Nain" brothers exhibition was delightful. This museum is a "must see" for any visitor to San Francisco.

The venue alone is worth to see it and sometimes they have really good expositions. Enquire before you go.

This may be my favorite art museum in the San Francisco Bay Area. They are able to have some amazing special exhibits where art from all over the world comes in. Currently the Brothers Le Nain are there with works from as far off as the Louvre. The place is large with many works including some great graphic works and... More
