Terrible experience. I give 1 but consider it a 0. Everything is closed, no markets or shops anymore for miles.
But if you like the smell of urine, it's the place to go. I should not have consulted advices written years ago. And the "Tenderloin" is DEFINITELY not a "filet mignon" but a boudin pourri!

Last time we came the place was crowded and busy. Now one (1) store (Dr.l Martens - shoes) was open. Every restaurant, bank, hotel, business, etc is gone. It was quiet like a Twilight Zone episode! Even scarier, the closures are spreading in all directions. What I couldn't get over was that this was not some back alley but as Trip Advisor mistakenly reports, "... the Champs Elysees of the city, this grand street is filled with shops, hotels, and, along the way, remarkable architecture."

Main thoroughfare in the heart of downtown San Francisco running from the Ferry Building on the Embarcadero and through Union Square. Union Square if a hub for shopping, dining and entertainment. The area is a magnet for the many homeless who roam the city.

Horrible! I wouldn’t even give it one star but it’s required.
Stay away from Market street or anywhere a block or so away from Union Square toward Market street...
I was here just five years ago and it was not bad. But now, drug addicted homeless EVERYWHERE… and piles of trash. It smelled like urine.
I used to enjoy exploring the city on foot but I felt so unsafe this time.
I will never come back to this area.

I felt like being in New York - while I have never been there till now. Highrise buildings, some built before WW II like Hobart Building from Willis Polk. Just walk through Market Street and be in awe.

This is the city's major artery, although traffic control policies make it confusing as to which vehicles can use it. I just walk and it is practical for connecting many neighborhoods. Part of the street has grand architecture, part is boring. And as you go west you pass through residential areas and end up on top of Twin Peaks where the views are supert.

I have heard stories, but I could never in my life imagine how dirty and disgusting this city is. I saw homeless/drug addicts/ mentally ill everywhere.. I watched open drug use of all kinds, fights, people going to the bathroom in the streets. I can not believe this is happening in an American city. The Mayor, Governor, and elected officials should be ashamed at themselves for letting this happen to what could be a beutiful city. You will iether smell weed or filth while walking around.

Plenty of shopping options with great dining opportunities. Not the cleanest in parts. Definitely enjoy taking a stroll down Market each time in SF.

My husband and I arrived in San Francisco on the 29th December and was shocked at the filth, drugs and so very many homeless people.
We did the Golden Gate Bridge, Lombard Street and the ‘Painted Ladies in one day.
Pier 39 restaurants were terrible and finding any decent restaurants in San Francisco was impossible.
We were meant to stay until the 4th January but we couldn’t do one more day.
A horrible filthy, mangy city.

I'm very concerned about the slums, how bad are they in SF.
Horrible! Words can't even describe! This is the most disgusting, revolting city we've ever visited. We left 3 days early and will never go back. Aggressive bums with feces and urine everywhere. And I literally mean everywhere!!! We love big city vacations like NYC, Chicago, Barcelona, etc.... SF is pure filth!

На маркет стрит я такого не видел. Но нечто подобное есть около моста Золотые ворота.
