We took the gorgeous walk through Greenwich Steps going downhill from Coit Tower, and we were glad we did, as the way itself is simply wonderful.
Make sure, though, to walk DOWN the steps, as the way up is VERY difficult, even for fit travellers.

Saw this among the hidden gems in San Francisco. Free Parking can be pretty difficult to find during peak hours. The climb can be combined with a visit to Coit Tower which is at the end of the climb. The climb can be difficult for women wearing heels. Take your time & do it patiently, else you'll find yourself huffing & puffing. Nice views, with lots of greenery, some houses & stuff make this great. Heard somewhere you can find some birds here, but I didn't really find any. I also heard there's another flight of steps somewhere on the opposite side, but I ended up choosing this. I had a good experience, but wife struggled on her heels. Alas, it was a chill experience.

We stumbled upon this completely by chance as we were walking from Coit down to the piers and GPS plotted the route. It is beautiful along these steps. Definitely take them down, the climb up would be less amusing.

From a Trolley stop you can take the Greenwich steps up to Coit Tower.

PROS
* Very very interesting views along the way - homes, views of the bay, etc...
* Stairs have many different turns along the way
* It was like a little journey that made you feel like you were no where near the middle of a city
* It's a good workout

CONS
* It's a good workout
* It was difficult to find the entry point to the stairs

Definitely take these stairs down, not up. Had Ubered to the top of Coit Tower, then walked down these stairs to the Embarcadaro. Lovely brick stairs near the top, winding down through gardens, backyards and views of the water.

We took an Uber to Coit tower but did not go to the top because the wait was too long. We took the Greenwich steps down which was fun. The homes and backyards are wonderful.

The Greewich Stairs are located on the East side of Telegraph Hill one block away from the Filbert Steps. This stairway will take you up the cliff to the top of Telegraph Hill where Pioneer Park and Coit Tower can be found.
This hike brings you through a unique neighborhood.... there are impressive views from these stairs. On a clear day one can see the Embarcadero below, the San Francisco Bay and the Bay Bridge beyond and even over to Berkeley, Oakland and the East Bay hills.
The houses, yards and gardens with the trees, flowers, decorations and pieces of artwork adds interest to this short hike.
The Filbert Steps and the Greenwich Stairs hikes are both great ways to spend a couple of hours discovering the city.

Well visited the place since I had heard and read a bit about it. There was a small crowd there as well. The drive down was short and the greenery nice as well. Walk or drive down the venue depending on how you feel. Have a nice day.

I loved walking the stairs up Telegraph Hill to Coit Tower. We were lucky that the weather was so great.

After taking the Filbert Steps up Telegraph Hill, I took the Greenwich Steps down. They were much straight forward to go down as they were just broken into two segments (had a little problem finding the second section but followed some locals). The stairs are steep but had railings all the way down. It was neat to see all the neighbors gardens and to be able to go down the stairs at my own pace.
