If you are in good physical shape, I highly recommend taking the steps to the top of Coit Tower. The steps provide amazing scenery. In some cases, the stairs pass next to the back patios of people who live next to the stairs. Many are...More

Who needs the gym machine when you can hike the beautiful Filbert steps from the bottom at Sansome street to Coit Tower. Bring plenty of water and good walking/ hiking shoes. The hike up the steps can be strenuous.

I'll admit it, I'm about 20 pounds overweight, but I still made it up these amazing stairs, at a slow and steady pace starting at Sansome Street and stopping for a breather a couple of places along the way. I wouldn't advise it for anyone...More

Start from the east side (embarcadero side) of Filbert to get the full effect. Beautiful gardens line the pathway all the way to Telegraph Hill Blvd. Take your time, enjoy the climb, very peaceful and serene part of San Francisco. And if can somehow watch...More

This should be a mandatory walk for all Bay Area Locals. Fun and fantastic is how I would describe the opportunity to experience some of the most lovely views in San Francisco. And exercise at the same time... now that's a fabulous option. Wear your...More

I had a hard but fun time climbing these steps to get to Coit Tower! It was hiking in the middle of the city and I enjoyed seeing some private gardens and homes. How interesting to live there! Sadly, I did not spot any parrots...More

I started at Sansome Street, and I did it, two days after my 50th birthday. I made it to Coit Tower! And then, I walked down Telegraph Hill to North Beach. I'm proud of myself.

First, you can start at either the Coit Tower or from Sansome street. We ended up doing them both ways. Many people jog up and down the steps as part of their workout routine, we did them purely on a lark to see Coit Tower...More

North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds
of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian
ristorante come together to create the charming
neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping
grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of
North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always
suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in
the city exude as much European charm and style.

Not sure what the address is but if you go to Coit Tower, both sets of stairs are on the street just below I believe. Since that is well known it will be easy to find and then you can ask someone if needed. Also if you are... More

The restaurant changed hands (don't know when) and became the Dalla Torre. The Dalla Torre closed in 2006 and the site was converted to a private residence.
