On June 7, 1974, Steve Silver produced a small show in the back room of the Savoy Tivoli Restaurant in San Francisco. The show was to run for six weeks. That was over 37 years ago... Today, Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon has the distinguished title of "World's Longest Running Musical Revue." The show - a musical spoof known internationally for its extravagant costumes, outrageous hats, show-stopping numbers and hilarious puns of pop culture and political character - has been seen by over 5.5 Million people, including HRC Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles and Camilla the Duchess of Cornwall as well as some of Hollywood's biggest stars. "Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon," hailed as "a constant cascade of showstoppers" by the "San Francisco Chronicle", follows Snow White as she takes a fast-paced journey around the world in search of her "Prince Charming." Along the way she encounters a star-studded, ever-changing line-up of hilarious political and pop-culture characters including Donald and Melania Trump, Adele, Hillary & Bill Clinton, Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian, President Barack & Michelle Obama, Hamilton, Bernie Sanders, Sia, Taylor Swift, Vladimir Putin, Chris Christie, Barbra Streisand, Miley Cyrus, Orange is the New Black, Empire's Cookie, Oprah and the San Francisco Giants

We saw the matinee show on a Sunday during our spring break trip. Very teen friendly with only a few adult humor moments. Our kids are 14 and enjoyed the production. Plenty of laughs. Political and news of the day subject matter. Cast is definitely polished and costumes are fantastic. No alcohol served at the matinee show, slight bummer. Seats... More

And my husband could barely talk after cheering so loud. It was hilarious, and I seriously didn't know if Snow White was going to find her prince.

This is really a unique experience. The performers, the costumes, the hats !!!!, the talent ..... it all sums up to an entertaining evening. We had read about getting there early and waiting in line for better seats ... instead we purchased reserved seat tickets and just showed up minutes before the show started. It worked out very easy that... More

Thanks for your review! We're glad the reserved seats worked out for your and your party; they are very convenient if you're short on time or don't wish to stand in line! More

We went to a Sunday matinee show with teenage kids. You need to be ready for just about every constituency, certainly in the US but globally too, to be insulted in some way but it's really really funny! Just be ready to bring your sense of humor and even if you can't get past all the humor you can not... More

It probably helps to be a Liberal, but you don't have to be. You just have to be able to see the humor in parody. Less than half the show is political, the rest has to do with famous personalities. In my book, an Absolute Must See. This was my fourth visit and I'll go again when I'm in SF.

For some reason, when I go visit my dear San Francisco native cousins, it tends to be left up to me to find fun activities in which we can partake. Kind of a tall order because...did I mention they're San Francisco natives?! On my most recent visit I sent us to Beach Blanket Babylon. SF natives they may be, but... More

We attended the Saturday night show of BBB. What a great event. We had reserved seats and a perfect view. The theater is small and intimate, the performers are very talented and the costumes are over-the-top! Sweet and sassy love story with Snow White travelling the world looking for her Prince. Along the way she runs into all kinds of... More

Probably my 10th time to this show over the past 20 years and it never disappoints. Yes, some parts are corny but you can't deny the creative humor through out most of it. I will say, my favorite lead singer was Val Diamond. Nothing compares to her pipes and the way she engaged the audience.

The best only in San Francisco event !!. Have been over 40 times , at least once a year and anytime I have out of town guests. The plot stays the same Snow White hunts all over for her prince, but the skits change to skewer celebrities in the news and changing cast members talents/voices . Always great entertainment, and... Thanks for the review and for attending so many times! You know to keep coming back for more as we constantly update and change the show to reflect current pop culture and political events. The "Von Trump Family" bit is the newest addition to the Beach Blanket Babylon show! More

Read any review of BBB and you'll find they're all the same. A tremendous show which is constantly changing with the times. The current theme is a lady roaming the world looking for love. On her travels, she comes across many "famous" people, including the politicians, actors and fictional characters. To truly enjoy the entire show, it'll help if you're... More

Thank you for the review. Snow White is always looking for her true love (and maybe one of these years she'll actually find it...?), so she encounters all kinds of current pop culture and political celebrities! Your tips are helpful for other guests who may be attending for their first time! We hope to see you again at "The Beach." More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.
