So many reviews fof Union Street confusing it for Union Square.

Union Street and Union Square are in two completely different parts is the city and are two completely different areas of the city and are completely unrelated!

Tourists confused these two area of the city just because of the name: Union.

Union Street is a very vibrant high end part of Dan Francisco which is located in the northern part of the city. Union Square area is a district which is not related in any way to Union Street, and yes, it is not that great specially after the pandemic.

But people make one thing clear, Union Street has nothing to do with Union Square. These are completely unrelated areas of San Francisco which are quite far from each other and are not connected in any way.

Most people commenting here about Union Street are confusing it with Union Square.

Most tourists visit Union Square because it is quote accessible. And think they have visited Union Street. They are quite incorrect!

WE were looking for a place to celebrate our anniversary and decided to stay in Union Street (not Union Square, as was a bit confusing). Place was incredible, just the quaint, no-big-chains, 'real people' kind of neighborhood we wanted. We were fortunate enough to stumble upon the ideal location... we stayed in the best block of Union Street... a couple of nights at a great small Inn on Union Street (Union Street Inn), and we found the best chocolate shop across the shop (Goldleaf Chocolatier, makes their own chocolates right there and best fudge and truffles we've ever had, all very fresh!). We had a fantastic brunch at Rose's Cafe, just down the corner (there was also a nice homeware store right there as well, can't remember the name). Further up the street there are mostly good clothing shops (pricy but unique and great quality) and plenty of other restaurants, even another chocolate shop, but an overpriced one selling other companies stuff and not very fresh from what we tasted. A great shop called Ambiance had clothing and accessories and lots more, a place I wish I had nearby at home (along with the yummy fudge!) The Union STreet Inn was a great small place and had the most wonderful garden, and even nice & quite, what a surprise (perfect room too). Lots of friendly people, in the big city, but in a true neighborhood. The best of San Francisco!

I have lived in the Bay Area for almost 30 years, about 10 of them near Union Street, I worked on Union Street and most of these reviews and photos are for Union Square. Union Street is a very posh, very upscale street with bars, restaurants and shops. It's about 8 blocks up from the Marina Green. A lovely day would be shopping on Union Street then head down to Marina Green and check out the view of the Golden Gate Bridge. There's a Promenade down there that has a spectacular view as you walk to the Bridge. Last time I was down at the Marina/water I saw seals swimming up and down along the walkway. The view is one of the best views in the world. Union Street is a gorgeous part of San Francisco.

I'm so glad I didn't get a hotel in the area as everyone seemed to suggest. It was not as location convenient to ALL districts and being more "downtown" it was a lot dirtier and felt unsafe. Lots of homeless people caused many businesses to lock doors only to be allowed in one at a time. Kinda crazy.

If I said it ONCE, I said it way too much---LIFE IS UNFAIR!!!

A couple of weeks ago, I read of this broke Israeli Programmer/Future Software MOGAL who invented a new PHONE APP called 'YO'!!!". Ask me what it does? You send one of your buddies the Text MSG 'YO' and he's supposed to call you back. He's now an INSTANT BILLIONARE!!! I understand he sold his apartment, shaved off his Pe'ot, Moved to San Francisco, got a double Prince Albert and is now looking for the new Mrs. 'Yo' to drain him of all his money so as to inspire him to re-invent himself like Steve Jobs did. He'll probably come up with another Phone App called 'Oy Vey'...

If you're Rich or wanna marry RICH, you have to be seen on 'THE ONION' ('Union' to you tourist scum and the other 'unwashed hoards' that we Friscos 'tolerate'). Onion street is to Northern California what Rodeo Drive is to the SOCAL-istas. Its the place where you blow your ill gotten IPO gains on stuff you have no business owning. The Onion has all these cute little shops that sell extra-ordinary rare and pretty things. I mean, if shopping is your addiction of choice, belly up to the bar, ladies!!!

Outsiders are forever saying bad things about our LADIES OF THE ONION (Street). They claim they are all self centered, shallow, materialistic and ALL ON DRUGS. This is simply NOT TRUE. Just because their pupils are dilated, does not FOR ONE MINUTE mean they are on drugs---they just saw sooooo much pretty things to buy that, well, some people have a hard time taking it all in. Its a medical condition called 'MARINA EYES'.

$16,000.00 for a fun 'necklass'? $2,000.00 for a pair of 'to die for' Manolo Blahnik shoes? Here, I'll Squirt a couple of drops of these in her eyes and she'll be OK to drive,Officer!!!

Union...er, I mean ONION Street, is a great way to waste time and get some exercise in by strolling the outdoor shops and things. Just be prepared to drop $8.00 for that impossibly good 'double Espresso shot of Yrgerchef Single Veritial Coffee' and an ordinary Five Dollar Candy Bar.

If you look hard enough, you'll see me there too. I'm the guy charging you $30.00 to park in my old metered parking spot, next to that 'OH so fabulous Bistro you read about and always wanted to try. Hey, some of us are 'in between' IPO launches, lady!!!

Awesome shopping in unique boutiques. Absolutely loved some of the homewear shops... Modica, Tate & Kennedy, Isabelle's Table, ATYS. Things I haven't seen elsewhere, and I DO shop a lot, so finding multiple stores with unusual items is quite a treasure. Also stumbled upon an Innuit Art place (Images of the North), fantastic and very memorable chocolate (Goldleaf Chocolate Company) and an interesting kids' clothing place where the kids learn to make their own clothes (Wee Scotty, where I vowed to bring my niece to sometime in the future). I visit San Francisco regularly and had been downtown for Christmas (which was a complete zoo) so I was thrilled to find great shopping with sufficient breathing room! San Francisco is great anytime, albeit a bit rainy in January/February. If visiting San Francisco and you have a car, the only problem is parking. On Union Street, I find the best bet is un-metered parking in nearby side streets, which gives you 2 free hours of parking... but take what you can get!

This is a great place to walk about, if you like shopping fill your boots. Plenty of shops and restaurants. Or you could just stroll like we did you take it all in. Gets very busy during rush hour so try and avoid that time of day.

We went to Union street twice because of the little shops. I bought a few beautiful scarves and there is now an Alex and Ani store there. We walked the street several times.

Everybody knows that the streets of San Francisco are on a roller coaster ride - sicne the coty is even more surely built on many hills than ancient Rome was. Union Street starts out - or ends - as a residential street, but when it dips into what's called Cow Hollow, for a few blocks Union Street turns into a micro universe of shops and restaurnats, pubs and stores, less chain store oriented than the modern mlls, more individual with some great spots. A genuine little contained and preserved neighborhood.
