- Jocelyn SunNew York17 contributionsAmazing View and Great DestinationThe Golden Gate Bridge was one of the best places we visited in San Francisco. The red paint really made the bridge stand out from the nature, and the pictures were absolutely stunning. Even though there was wind, cold, and many people, being here with family was definitely one of the most important memories I have made! I would definitely recommend taking a bus up to the Visitor Center and having a great time.Visited December 2022Travelled with familyWritten 23 December 2022
- Dean BRedding, California159 contributionsIconic & Must SeeYou can't visit San Francisco without visiting the GG bridge. We parked at the north end (get there early to find parking) and walked across the span to the toll booths. We had perfect weather for the day, a little cool as we expected, but the views and experience were amazing. At the south end there is a nice cafe, and you can walk down to the old fort under the south anchorage. And it is free!Visited May 2022Written 28 December 2022
- Travelsotl1990Sydney, Australia65 contributionsAmazing for an afternoon walkBeautiful iconic tourist spot. We managed to walk across on a sunny day and saw dolphins and a small shark in the harbour. Be mindful - not much transport options to get back unless you have a pass for the hop on bus. There's a nice cafe spot with a lookout on the city side but only street vendors on the far side.Visited October 2022Written 31 December 2022
- yiannavaNicosia, Cyprus41 contributionsGolden Gate bridge = San FransiscoWe visited in December and were extremely lucky to have amazingly clear views of the bridge from the North view point. Walk along the pedestrian walkway to get the feeling of the bridge. The south view point gives you the view of the bridge from a lower perspective. Much better to take pictures from this point before noon as the sun is behind you.Visited December 2022Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 January 2023
- Ajoy2bPalm Beach, Florida303 contributionsLove San FranWe, being Michiganders, love the Mackinac bridge and feel an allegiance to Michigan but felt that the Golden Gate pales in comparison. Sorry San Francisco. We do love this city and all the sites and fab restaurants.Visited January 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 8 January 2023
- PartimebobBirkenhead, United Kingdom31 contributionsBridge that gap. What an amazing structure. An icon of engineering that you can walk on and touch. Strolling across it was easy and gave fantastic photo opportunities back to the city. It took us about an hour from the Vista Point South to the Lonely Sailor Statue for yet more photos. We then walked down Alexander Ave into Sausalito which was another 45 minutes. We needed to get to the ferry before the last departure but if you have time, there are plenty of places to eat or drink and admire the views. The ferry was another 30 minute ride back to the city - 7 dollars if you're as old as me, 14 if you're younger. Get it on your bucket list.Visited September 2022Travelled with familyWritten 11 January 2023
- Mark FNottingham, United Kingdom205 contributionsTruly SpectacularDo not visit SF and miss this. It is global icon and a feat of engineering. Having read some of the reviews, you don’t need a tour bus or bikes and you can do this all for free. We got the public bus there but that was all we had to pay. There is a visitor centre and lots of external information on the history, design and construction of the bridge. You can also see or walk down to Fort Mason. We walked about a third of the way across the bride and the views were spectacular. After that we walked through the Presidio which offered brilliant alternative views and was very prettyVisited January 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 January 2023

- Von1287Albany, New York773 contributionsView it from Battery Spencer park!I was prepared to not be wowed by this for some reason. But I love bridges and pictures don't do this one justice! Pro-tip: view it from Battery Spencer park (we came from the north). This was an awesome spot with a fence full of locks. Lots of wind the day we were there but the bridge was the star of the show!Visited September 2022Written 3 February 2023
- djohn76Wisconsin77 contributionsA great experience! My wife and I spent our2020 anniversary in San Francisco and when seeing this magnificent bridge, it was a wonderful and amazing site to see. To think of the work and engineering that went in to this is mind boggling. I truly recommend seeing it.Visited June 2022Written 5 February 2023

The magnificence and beauty of the Golden Gate Bridge come not only from its majestic bridge body, but also from the surrounding natural scenery. Standing here, I not only see a bridge, but also feel the beauty of harmonious coexistence between human beings and nature.

You have to do this whilst in San Francisco don’t you! We walked there from Fisherman’s Wharf via other SF iconic landmarks and some hidden gems and then walked half way across the bridge and back and got the bus back. Great views of the city, bay and Alcatraz. Saw two helicopters fly under the bridge whilst we were there. Great experience.

This was always on my bucket list, and it was even more amazing in real life than in pictures. We were on a cruise and went under the bridge and it was an awesome sight. The views coming into the city are not to be missed.

We went to the area where the last stop and gift shop was- the parking near the gift shop is a joke and some of the rudest people I’ve ever dealt with- views were good and it was a beautiful day.

A beautiful span bridge 🌉 that is so magnificent to see in person and ride over. Big bus Tour goes over the bridge and stops at visitor center. Regular city bus also stops here, very easy to get to and great views of the harbor. Many ground levels to great many different shots.
Surprise that contractors for the bridge are from Roebling New Jersey. And tests were done at Princeton to ensure the structure was sound.
There is a restaurant cafe that has a round shape so more great views of the bay as you relax with a latte and pastry.

Visited this place on the 24th May 2023. Was on my travel list since a long time… The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge spanning the Golden Gate, the one-mile-wide (1.6 km) strait connecting San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean and has to be seen ! Acclaimed as one of the world's most beautiful bridges, there are many different elements to the Golden Gate Bridge that make it unique. With its tremendous towers, sweeping cables, and great span, the Bridge is a sensory beauty and engineering wonder featuring color, sound and light. that runs beneath it - The Golden Gate Strait. One gets to learn so much when one gets to travel and see !

Visited the bridge on our first day in San Francisco. Took the bus direct from Fisherman’s Wharf to the Welcome Centre. Weather was glorious so we walked across (avoiding the cyclists) to the viewing area on the other side. Wonderful views across the Bay. Took an Uber into Sausalito which was like a different world - a quaint fishing village where we had lunch in one of the many cafés/bakeries. Enjoyed an hour exploring the shops and harbour area before catching the ferry back across passing close to Alcatraz on the way. Would highly recommend!

Hi there,
So in March '23 my mom and I have a 5 hour layover in SFO before connecting back to Amsterdam. Would there be enough time to see the golden gate bridge and get back to the airport again if we get an Uber? We just want to see it and return to the airport again. Our time window is between 9.30AM and 1PM on a Friday as we probably need to get though customs again as we left the airport.

You could do that. It would be a close thing, but the traffic during this hours is no too bad.

Can I walk across the bridges and take a bus back across? We want to go over today but it’s raining pretty consistently so only want to walk one way and get ride back.
Thanks

As a past resident and frequent visitor of the GG Bridge, Fort Point, Sausalito I transversed the bridge many times. The best one way walk excursion would be to get a lift from the S.F. side to the North side and walk back across for free enjoying the view of S.F. Don’t forget there are historic sites under the bridge at both ends that make for great pictures of the bridge and city.

Is their an area where i can take a selfie with the bridge in the background? If so where would i stand in order to get most of the entire bridge in the background of ny photo when i go to visit?

Yes, there are places on both sides of the bridge at the Scenic lookout... on the City side, you can take a selfie all along the path on the East side of the bridge with the best picture standing at the path where it splits between the "walking side of the bridge" and the path going under the bridge for bike riders. On the West lookout point, you can take a selfie all along the parking lot stone wall.

I am landing in the San Fran lnternational terminal at 12:45pm with a domestic flight departing from the same airport at 8pm.
Please can I have an idea of the most efficient way to see (best views) and walk the bridge, before grabbing a crab chowder at the dock and returning to the airport. I probably have 2-3 clear hours.
Thanks!

That's a resounding yes as my first time seeing it was at night.Magical with the mists hovering over it.The bus 92 and 93 should get you there.Enough time to still take a long walk all the way to see the Palace of Fine Arts if you are up for it.

Bus is best and safest way around at night otherwise take an Uber for a round trip! It’s a must even though you don’t have much time. Enjoy.

I’ve biked the bridge multiple times, however I will be back with friends who have not experienced this must do activity. However, we will be visiting in the heart of winter, the second week of February and I fear it will be so cold on the bridge that we will not be able to enjoy ourselves? Has anyone biked in the winter months? If so, how was it for amateur bikers? TIA

We did it 2 weeks ago (Fisherman's Wharf-Sausalito - up Marin Heights and back to the city). The key is layers of workout gear that you can swap around . There are some steep climbs in the vicinity of the bridge which keep you nice and warm!!!But you will need a couple of layers and warm jacket if you stop . It was cold but blue sky when we did it-specatcular!
