- KebuhKuala Lumpur, Malaysia1,715 contributionsHistorical tower worth visiting for amazing 360 degree views of San FranciscoEasiest way of doing this visit is to just take a bus up to the tower. Opted for the more difficult option, walked up Telegraph Hill using the Filbert steps. Took the route from Embarcadero near Pier 19 through Levi’s Plaza up to the base of Filbert steps. It’s a challenging walk up but you do get some wonderful vistas of the bay towards the Bay Bridge and see some very nice houses whose only access is from the steps. Took a leisurely 30 minutes to get up to Coit Tower. Once at the base of the tower, you do get some good views of the City and the bay but would recommend spending the USD10 to go up the lift to the top of the tower. There u have views not blocked by trees of the whole city and Bay Area especially the Transamerica Building. Had the option of taking the bus down but decided on taking Lombard Street down towards Fisherman’s Wharf. All in all a great 3 hours spent to get a feel for the geography of San Francisco.Visited January 2023Travelled soloWritten 12 January 2023
- Mark FNottingham, United Kingdom205 contributionsWonderful Views of the CityThis was real trek up to the tower but was well worth it. The walk is not for the faint hearted and was quite hard. Alternatively you can get a public bus up. There is lots of interesting information and the the murals were great. Entrance to the tower (via a lift) is $10 but definitely worth it. We had a nice day and the views of the city were superb. If you get the right weather I would strongly advise paying a visit.Visited January 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 January 2023
- BT Frederick2 contributionsRude attitude problem elevator operator at Coit Tower in San FranciscoIt was nice. The view of the whole city of San Francisco is neat to see from the top of the coit tower. The line can be long just to get onto the elevator to take you to the top. They only have one elevator going up. It’s the same way to go down. You have to wait in line just to go down. I didn’t care for the elevator operator who was operating the elevator going down though. She wasn’t very friendly and she appeared to have a bad attitude. She yelled at my son just because his mask wasn’t completely over his face. It didn’t cover his nose, and she was real nasty about it. Not sure what her problem was but that was the one thing I did not like about the coit tower. The elevator operator! I did not card one but for her attitude at all. No reason for her to go off like that just because a face mask is off someone’s nose only by a few inches! I hope she gets fired!Visited July 2022Travelled with familyWritten 5 February 2023
- Paul Smith PalliserPeru302 contributionsNice views of SFIt was a nice experience. It's a long line to the elevator but you get distracted with the lovely murals. Once on top you get to experience a beautiful view of the city. The only issue I had was that the windows were kind of dirty making my camera hard to focus while taking pictures of the city. Other than that it's worth the while visiting this iconic site. Very friendly staff.Visited July 2022Written 22 February 2023
- DFK592 contributionsCoit Tower adventure!Visiting Coit Tower was well worth the effort! We climbed up many sets of steps and steep streets to get there (but there’s a bus that stops there as well). The murals on the inside of the tower tell fascinating stories about San Francisco and the views from the top of the tower are spectacular!Visited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 26 February 2023
- Michael FAudubon, Minnesota30 contributionsBeautiful views of San FranciscoIf you want a fantastic view of the San Francisco area, make a stop at the Coit Tower. It isn't easy to get there but it's worth the view. We were visiting family on a rainy day so we drove up there and actually found an open parking spot. However, there are maybe 15 spots so don't try it if you aren't feeling lucky. When we visited Fisherman's Wharf, we saw a bus marked Coit Tower picking people up so that is probably a better option. The view from the parking lot observatory is very good but you have to go inside the tower and take an elevator to the top to really get the view. You buy the $10 ticket first and get in line for the elevator, which holds about 6-7 people. We were there in March so the line was short. It still took 10-15 minutes in line to get the elevator. The ride is about five minutes and the elevator operator was cheery. He answered the obligatory questions (how many stories (11), how long is the trip, do we have to get back on right away) and then we were there. The top of the tower is open and you view the city through sets of three windows as you move around the tower. The view was fantastic! We spent time looking for famous landmarks and just taking in the view. You can stay as long as you need to. There is a line for the elevator down as well. It was well worth the trip and we enjoyed our 60 minutes there.Visited March 2023Written 5 March 2023
- thistle-do-nicelyKilmarnock, United Kingdom629 contributionsGreat views over the cityWe had been at Coit before, but never gone up the tower. The views from the top were well worth the entrance fee. The elevator was out of order, so it was 230+ steps to the too, which was ok except for the unreasonable attitude of one member of staff who told us not to stop on the landings as "this was the evacuation route". Absurd. At over 60, although reasonably fit, I needed a moment to catch my breath before continuing.Visited April 2023Travelled with familyWritten 16 April 2023

- TravelingSoccerLoonSaint Paul, Minnesota3,188 contributionsGreat Views of the City and BayA bit of a workout making the climb to and up historic Coit Tower on Telegraph Hill, but the reward is amazing 360 views of the city and San Francisco Bay. Limited parking available. You can catch bus #39 to reach here.Visited October 2022Written 29 April 2023
- ekelleman88Hammond, Indiana171 contributionsGood views without going to the topI should preface by saying I did not pay the $7 to go to the top. I mainly went to check out the murals which were very nice. You can still get good views of the city and Bay Bridge from the grounds. I can't say if it's worth it to go to the top.Visited May 2023Travelled soloWritten 18 May 2023

We walked up from the surrounding neighborhoods. But you can drive up or there is a bus. Once on site, there is a snack bar and bathrooms in the parking lot. Once inside, the elevator is not working. You must climb 13 flights of stairs. Great views from the top, but they are through glass panels. Cost is $10. $7 for seniors.

We enjoyed an evening walk up to the tower and admired the view. There are some good lookout points. Just beware as some parts are dark so don’t go alone.

The view from outside the actual tower is worth the trip. However, do not count on going to the top of the tower. The elevator was down when we were there, so check ahead

So much to see and great weather that was not too hot nor too cold. ! Biking over the Golden Gate Bridge, exploring Golden Gate Park, riding the cable car, eating in Little Italy, and taking a tour of Alcatraz and Muir woods were highlights of the trip. All touristy activities but from the other coast so they were must sees. Getting around on public transportation was good but a little difficult to find where the bus would stop in some cases. Stayed in Fisherman’s Wharf area at Hyatt Centric which turned out to be a great location.

Staff really polite and knowledgeable. Parking impossible at busy times but we drove up and got lucky.
10 bucks each to ascend the 14 floors. It’s a bit of a slog but if you’re reasonably ambient you should be fine. Lift was out of order, which seems often the case. They are very protective of the stairwell wall paintings. I thought they were very juvenile, reminiscent of any junior school project.
It’s a little sanitised, in that most of the viewing portals being glazed. A couple were open. If you want a half hour cheap excursion, you could do worse. Can’t fault the 360 degree view

We walked from The Wharf. Some steep streets and steps, only to find the Coit elevator wasn’t working. 235 steps here we come.
Interesting history and murals and great views from the top. Wasn’t crowded.

The tower was closed when we visited but it was still worth while.
The views are great but they need to trim the tress because the views are limited.

Coit Tower sits on top of Telegraph Hill. It has stunning views of the entire San Francisco Bay. Takes a bit of a walk to climb up the steps from the Street.

View at the top is gorgeous. 360 degree view of pier and SF city. However, when I was there, the lift is out of service. So need to climb 13 stories to the top. Not recommended for senior or physicsl challenge travellers

I will go to the coit tower on April 28, 2019. I'd like to make an elevator reservation in advance from the WEB site. The web site does not have a schedule after April and can not be booked, what should I do?

If I book a ticket, will I have a time slot & if so will that ensure I get to go up at that time?

Don't think I can help you because my husband and I seen the tower from the road and wondered what it was. We walked up the hill (very steep) and paid at the entrance which is just inside the door. There was no queues and no time slots. We just "rocked up" and went in. After seeing this place I am so glad we did NOT get this on any tour. I don't think it's worth that. You are only in there for an hour at the most. It's nothing too special but it is informative of a piece of San Francisco's history.

Is it possible to go up to the tower peak by stairs, not by elevator? If yes, do I need to pay for that?

The only way is the elevator . But if you want steps, you could walk up the 483 steps from Filbert to get to the tower itself! We did it and we are 60+ . And yes, we were happy to see the elevator inside. They also give a senior discount $5.00.
