Neighbourhood: Civic Center
Civic Center is the seat of power for all things government and performance-related in the city. Although its streets are best walked during daytime, numerous cultural gems are within close proximity to one another. The symphony, opera, ballet, and jazz center offer year round entertainment within the shadow of the city’s Beaux-Arts crown jewel: the gold tipped dome of City Hall.

This is a huge multi-block square in front of City Hall but also in front of the Asian Art Museum and the Public Library, plus other grand civic buildings. An important center, but not attractive. The city has tried many time to make this are inviting, but has never succeeded.

This is a lovely area in San Francisco, consisting of several massive and impressive buildings, halls and museums.
It's good for a 2-hour stroll and visit of the museums.

Went to the SF Ballet performance on a recent visit. The area looked good. Lots of dogs playing, a nice sight.

The Civic Center is surrounded by lots of important cultural institutions such as museums, concert halls, and the big library. Also important government buildings. Behind it is a vibrant dining and drinking area. But the park in front has never come into its own and continues to be ugly and trashy.

Civic Center is where the City Hall, Asia Museum, Opera House and other buildings are in San Francisco.
During December its more magical. There is the Nutcracker Show. There is Holiday Ice, which is an ice skating rink.
and there is a very prettty Christmas tree.
Many people were having holiday fun.

The entire Civic Center Plaza and complex is significant to any visit to SF. There is something for just about everyone including art exhibits, a playground, grassy areas, open plazas and buildings with museums, city hall and more. It's easy to maneuver, with plenty of areas to walk or to sit. Davies Symphony Hall, the Opera House, and Ballet theater are just a few of the cultural institutions in the immediate area.

We just saw it from outside while we went for a walk. Wouldn't recommend walking at night alone, but it was a lovely sight.

The Civic Center Plaza is beautiful. There are art exhibits and a playground. Easy to walk or sit. Close to the Orpheum, Davies Symphony Hall, Opera House and great restaurants.
