Very interesting museum that does a better job than other museums in explaining Asian art, history, and symbolism. Describes how the various cultural heritages are related through art.

This is in the old post office building right near city hall. Beautiful old building and a terrific museum. I have been here several times. There are some really great things here - jade, pottery, Chinese brush paintings, sculpture, etc. The Indian sculpture is a...More

Both permanent and temporary exhibits here are impressive. The museum is an architectural icon, located in the same vicinity as the SF opera house, Davies Symphony Hall, the City Hall, etc., and it holds its own with these other great buildings. The little cafe offers...More

This museum has a fantastic collection of Asian art with pieces that date back 2000 years. Displays are beautiful with easy-to-read descriptions. Highly recommended visitors take 1-1/2 to 2 hours to thoroughly appreciate the exhibits.

The coat check takes luggage which is convenient for a traveler to visit the museum and explore the neighborhood by foot. Not a huge collection but there are some gems in the pottery section.

Civic Center
Civic Center is the seat of power for all things
government and performance-related in the city.
Although its streets are best walked during daytime,
numerous cultural gems are within close proximity to
one another. The symphony, opera, ballet, and jazz
center offer year round entertainment within the
shadow of the city’s Beaux-Arts crown jewel: the gold
tipped dome of City Hall.
