I've wanted to visit Alcatraz on every previous trip I've taken to San Francisco, but in peak tourism season you usually need to book tickets at least a couple months in advance. As luck would have it, during my recent December trip, I was able to book tickets only one day in advance. This place lived up to my expectations.... More

Gotta get tickets early but the night tour of Alcatraz was pretty cool. It gave the tour an extra "creep" factor! At the end when all were told to exit the building, we asked a person working there if we could see a little more "behind the scenes" and he took us to the psych ward and put us in... More

We, of course took a boat over to Alcatra. We took a audio tour and I remember the cells & prisoners that escaped, looking just like the movie, Escape from Alcatraz! It was really cool !

An amazing trip to Alcatraz Prison. We visit the cell where Al " scareface" Capone was for four years. Very interested to hear the story from all attempt of ascape. A trip for for life. The best is to booke the tickets online, 3-4 days before. 39 dollar for everything is not bad. Try it :-).

Well explained tour with background information about the jail. You can tour the island on your own pace and stay as long as the last vessel takes you back to mainland. It shows you clearly how the process was and an audio tour is provided free of charge

The boat ride over was a pleasant, and from the boat and Alcatraz Island there were beautiful views of the city. A half hour ranger led talk about the life of one particular prisoner and a 45 minute self guided audio tour were very well done.

Such a great place to visit. The history behind this place is amazing. You go on a self guided walking tour of the facility and are issued head phones that tell you all about the prison and the happenings. It's nice to do it this way because those who want to take their time and really see and hear everything... More
