This is without doubt one of the best museums in the USA. The way the audioguide is done, is amazing. Consider taking the first cruise of the day to avoid the crowds.

Alcatraz was definitely the highlight of my trip to SF, so much history and some of the stories are fascinating and first hand experience of witnessing the way the prisoners lived.

A strong story. A story about desperation and hardship. A story about how we treat criminals. Men who often had no choice but to survive outside the law.

So interesting. Great narrated tours that guide you everywhere and explain everything and the history and stories of the in mates. Lovely views back across the water of San Fransisco as well.

I certainly highly recommend this. It is a self tour but is so so worth it. There is so much to learn from this, and I really enjoyed this.

Alcatraz offers a nice view of San Francisco. Order tickets two months before your trip. Remember to bring some snacks also.

I don't believe there is much, if any, parking at the Embarcadero. Would recommend taking taxi/Uber or public transportation.
