A tradition of excellence. Featured in Outside Magazine, the Boston Globe, Downeast Magazine, National Geographic Adventure and on Bill Green's Maine, CBS, Maine PBS among many others.

Experience a half-day or full day climb with Maine’s original and most respected climbing school. Acadia Mountain Guides is one of the most sought out leaders of climbing instruction and guide education in the US. We specialize in designing unique, personalized climbing experiences for all ages and abilities on the scenic shores of Acadia and throughout Maine! Join us for a healthy and fun activity that is guaranteed to be a highlight of your vacation. All equipment is provided. Unlike other local seasonal climbing services, guiding is our profession! We guide year round on rock, snow, and ice. 100% of our staff are independently trained and certified above national guiding and medical standards set by the American Mountain Guides Association and the Professional Climbing Instructors Association. AMGCS has the distinction of being the only school in Maine to be dually accredited by both the AMGA and the PCIA. AMG has been under the same consistent ownership since opening in 1993. The owner, Jon Tierney, began guiding in 1983 in Acadia and is one of a handful of Americans to earn the International Federation of Mountain Guides Association (IFMGA) guide license. The IFMGA license is the PhD of guiding and requires full AMGA certification as a rock, alpine and ski mountaineering guide. We look forward to meeting you on the rocks!

I'm 22 and an avid rock climber but my 14 year old brother had never climbed outside before so having an awesome, experienced guide such as Alex was extremely helpful! He was very encouraging when my brother was having a difficult time. Alex also took time while setting up climbs to teach us about what he was doing which was... More

I was with a group of women yoga adventures who signed up for a rock climbing adventure with Acadia Mountain Guides Climbing School on Otter Cliffs. Dick and Brad were our guides for the evening. They were very nice and very knowledgeable about belaying and rock climbing. I was hesitant to climb at first but Brad and Dick alleviate my... More

Acadia Mountain Guides provided my friend and I with a truly amazing experience! Dick, our guide, was polite, patient, helpful, encouraging, and trustworthy. When you're dangling from a rope above the ocean , trusting your guide is a must! He took us to Otter Cliffs where we were challenged as beginners (only had climbed twice at a gym before) and... We came across a groupon but it required to be booked at least a week in advance so I gave them a call before purchasing and they were so accommodating and flexible in anticipation of our visit. Definitely call them first! It was so exciting to climb and experience the beautiful Mount Desert Island cliffs beyond hiking around them. Our... More

Christian was our guide for the morning. He was very knowledgeable about clmbing, repelling and keeping scaredy cats calm. Being from FL we don't see many hills let alone cliffs or mountains, Christian made it all seem easy and after the first repel we were hooked! The entire experience from booking to dropping Christian back at the office was amazing... More

I had a GREAT time climbing in Acadia! I am usually terrified of heights, but my guide Christian was able to soothe my nerves. Christian took my friend Ally and I on a tour of the best places to climb along the coast! We climbed at South Otter (One of the filming locations for the movie "Shutter Island" with Leonardo... My wife and I were in the Bar Harbor area for a few days this past week (week of 9/12/16). I am primarily a gym climber in the 5.9/5.10 range (live in Florida) and over the last year or so have been trying to gain some experience outside whenever I get a chance. As a result I couldn't resist attempting... More

I am 69 with arthritis in knees and hands and had never done rock-climbing before although I was curious about it. I felt fit and considered myself nimble though and decided to give it a try after reading the enthusiastic reviews of Acadia Mountain Guides Climbing School on Trip Advisor. The cruise we were on would stop in Bar Harbor,... More

Brian O'Leary took our whole family on an all-day program. It was definitely the highlight of our vacation and all our kids LOVED it (ages 20, 18, 16, and 11). We climbed somewhere near the Precipice Trail which the kids had just done the day before (the non-technical portion). It was the first time for all of us to do... More
