Experience a half-day or full day climb with Maine’s original and most respected climbing school. Acadia Mountain Guides is one of the most sought out leaders of climbing instruction and guide education in the US. We specialize in designing unique, personalized climbing experiences for all ages and abilities on the scenic shores of Acadia and throughout Maine! Join us for a healthy and fun activity that is guaranteed to be a highlight of your vacation. All equipment is provided. Unlike other local seasonal climbing services, guiding is our profession! We guide year round on rock, snow, and ice. 100% of our staff are independently trained and certified above national guiding and medical standards set by the American Mountain Guides Association and the Professional Climbing Instructors Association. AMGCS has the distinction of being the only school in Maine to be dually accredited by both the AMGA and the PCIA. AMG has been under the same consistent ownership since opening in 1993. The owner, Jon Tierney, began guiding in 1983 in Acadia and is one of a handful of Americans to earn the International Federation of Mountain Guides Association (IFMGA) guide license. The IFMGA license is the PhD of guiding and requires full AMGA certification as a rock, alpine and ski mountaineering guide. We look forward to meeting you on the rocks!

Though best known for rock climbing, the school does offer guided hikes, and mine was superb. Guide Nicole led me up Cadillac Mountain's West Face Trail so that I could finish my research for a novel to be published this summer. The trail is steep, rocky, and magnificently quiet. It's just you, the wind in the trees, and a few... More

Spent a half-day climbing Otter Cliffs with AMG owner Jon. He is a talented climber and equally talented teacher. It became obvious very quickly how experienced he is at what he does. The morning was fun, informative, challenging, and exhilarating. He catered the day to our experience level (novice) and gave us a perfect combination of information/teaching and actual climbing.... Matt and Brad have been super nice. I really appreciated their time when I called up asking for help on local climbing areas, routes, etc. I also took a climbing lesson from AMG about ten years ago, and that was great too. Even though Matt wasn't familiar with the area I ended up at, he made the effort to look... More

My fiance and I scheduled a 5-day trip with Acadia Mountain Guides to Nevada’s Red Rocks National Park in April 2017. We were experienced sport climbers, but wanted to start trad climbing in a safe and controlled environment. We went with AMG because of their low rates and fantastic reviews, and our experience with them was absolutely phenomenal! Our guide,... More

I did a winter ascent of Mt. Katahdin with guides from AMG and had a great experience. They kept us safe on the mountain and warm in camp (it was -5 F).

My 15 year old took these courses at Bar Harbor. He did 1&2 last year. He has nothing but great things to say about the guides and experiences. He's made friends from all over the country that he climbed with. I highly recommend that you sign up for two classes. He told me how some who hadn't, had really wanted... More

Thank you for the kind review of our summer camp! We agree that coupling weeks of camp is a great option for those campers who are motivated to learn a ton and lengthen the experience! Many campers make lasting friends at camp with us, and one week sometimes just isn't enough (we also offer multiple week discounts for each additional... More

Experienced my first rock climbing when I visited Maine last year with my friend. I must say this was definitely the highlight of my visit. Even if you have zero experience (like me), you gotta give this a try! It will be worth it!

I'm 22 and an avid rock climber but my 14 year old brother had never climbed outside before so having an awesome, experienced guide such as Alex was extremely helpful! He was very encouraging when my brother was having a difficult time. Alex also took time while setting up climbs to teach us about what he was doing which was... More

I was with a group of women yoga adventures who signed up for a rock climbing adventure with Acadia Mountain Guides Climbing School on Otter Cliffs. Dick and Brad were our guides for the evening. They were very nice and very knowledgeable about belaying and rock climbing. I was hesitant to climb at first but Brad and Dick alleviate my... More

Acadia Mountain Guides provided my friend and I with a truly amazing experience! Dick, our guide, was polite, patient, helpful, encouraging, and trustworthy. When you're dangling from a rope above the ocean , trusting your guide is a must! He took us to Otter Cliffs where we were challenged as beginners (only had climbed twice at a gym before) and...
