We took this walk, which was near our bed and breakfast, mainly to look for shells since we didn't allow enough time to go all the way to the island. Even in the rain and wind it was a nice walk. Good shells to be found! As others have said, definitely know the tide times so you don't get trapped.

My husband & I go here every October for the last 3 years & we get a package deal which includes dinner at the Bar Harbor Inn & sightseeing, but the bar is a place we go on our own. the bar is a must see & I love it!

This was a fun experience being able to walk out to an island, and then several hours later, the land bridge was under water!

We arrived in Bar Harbor around 5pm, and the timing was perfect - it was just hitting low tide. We dumped our luggage, rolled up our pant legs and headed to the water. The sand is pretty firm, but it is spotted with little pools of water so your shoes will eventually get wet if you aren't careful. The receding... More

We started about 2 1/2 hours before low tide, did the hike to the top of the island, and returned before low tide. Thus, you have quite a lot of time to do it. However, if you are stranded there is a number to call for a launch that will pick you up and return you to Bar Harbor. The... More

It is not often that one encounters such an opportunity. But pay close atttention to the warnings and time limits as the tide rises very quickly! Beautiful views from Bar Island. See where there was once a house on the island.

Took the walk over to Bar Island during low tide. Then climbed the trail to the top of Mount Bar. Great morning walk. The view of the harbor area from the top is very nice. Watch the loose rocks on the last.2 mi. Very nice morning. Highly recommend

You have 2 chances every day to walk the land bridge. You can easily google the times for low tide. Plan your visit for the start of low tide because if you walk the bridge and hike the island and do not pay attention to the time then you will be stranded there until the next low tide. You cannot... More

Walk over the land bar over to Bar Island and see untouched shore and land. Barren and beautiful , view Bar Harbor from a different angle. Watch the tide schedule or you will spend the night there...

We had fun walking the sand bar (what we called it). There is all kinds of tidal pool life going on. The island was fun for kids to explore. Plan about 2 hours or so and don't get caught by the tides. Once high tide comes in the land disappears.
