About
Founded in 1950 as a fruit stand, the Dole Plantation in central Oahu now draws travelers to its famous pineapple harvests and open-air Pineapple Express Train. Sign up for an educational tour to learn how the fruit of Hawaii is grown, its rich history, and agricultural practices. After that, stroll in the giant pineapple-shaped garden maze lined with 14,000 fruits. Don’t leave without buying some pineapples and sampling the original pineapple Dole Whip. The pineapple salsa and jam make great souvenirs, too. – Tripadvisor

    Meh pineapples
We were excited to visit. Not knowing what a pineapple plant looked like. We walked around the gardens. Were going to do the train but couldn't wait the 1.45 time for the train with our family member. We also didn't go through the maze the gravel with the wheelchair looked quite challenging. We visited the shop brought a few bits. Sampled some pineapple. It's worth a stop the parking is free. But don't expect too much.

Adults just GO for the Dole Whip
After reading the reviews I knew that this was more for children than adults but I had to GO so we could try the Dole Whip. Believe me that we were not disappointed, in fact we went to the Dole Plantation twice and just for the Dole Whip. The grounds are very nice, the gift shop is full of things you can purchase(bring lots of $$) because the items here are pricey. You can get some pretty cool food items that aren't too high and it's stuff you can't get back home. They do have a snack bar where you can eat lunch, oh did I mention the DOLE WHIP????? Make the trip up there if only to try the Dole Whip.

    Shave ice is is refreshing
Shave ice (not shaved ice) i a popular Hawai'ian treat in warm weather. The ice is shaved from a block of ice, then filled with a variety of toppings, such as syrups and tropical fruits. Shave is said to be invented by Japanese field hands, who used their tools to shaved the ice. Shave ice can be found all over Asia. we tasted shave ice at Dole Plantation and Honolulu Zoo.

Delicious treats at the Dole Pineapple Plantation
The Dole Plantation is beautiful, fascinating, easy for a quick stop or spend a couple hours. The Dole float is a must. I preferred it to the famous Dole Whip (aka Dole Soft Serve) because you get the Dole soft serve with the freshest pineapple juice you’ll ever taste. We skipped the “world’s largest maze” ($10 and 45min to go through) and bought tickets for the train (approx $15) but the wait was 45min for a 20min train ride which was fun for the littles and full of plantation facts but we’ll skip next time. It was great to see some of the plantation though. You can also get tix for a self-guided walk through the gardens. Such beautiful vegetation and cultural history. Remarkable what James Dole accomplished. They have pineapple and chocolate demonstrations & tastings but they’re both before 3pm so check for times. Enjoy!

    Interesting place
Wonderful place to see, but quite touristy. Large building to shop in for pineapple everything. The soft serve pineapple ice cream and pineapple pizza were delicious. We skipped all the extras (garden tour, train ride, etc…); they charge quite a bit for those family activities, which we were not interested to participate ($13.75 train ride).

Worth going to see. Plan on several hours.
Plan on spending a few hours or more. We enjoyed taking the small train through the plantation. Even saw a wild hog run through. We didn’t get a chance to do everything but it was worth going to.

    All about pineapples
You can see how pineapples grow. Here are three main excursions inside the farm: maze, visit plantation by a train and excursion around the garden. There are also restaurant with food and snacks and big souvenir shop with different types of pineapples of course :) wi-fi is available for guests.

Not sure if it was worth the trip
We first took the train tour through the plantation. A pre-recording plays throughout the trip with interludes of Hawaii music. We then visited the store to see a pineapple cutting demonstration that was not worth standing around for. Food was very expensive - even the Dole pineapple ice cream. It's a very pretty place but you can take it or leave it.

    Pineapples in paradise
At the Dole plantation you can browse the very large gift shop and see pineapples from various locations being grown. Beyond these two things, all other offerings will cost you. It is an interesting stop, but not one that requires any real lengthy visit.

    Dole Pineapple Plantation ka-ching!
The Pineapple Express train was broken. The Garden Tour ($8.00 pp) was nice but I got 5 mosquito bites at 1:00 pm. We didn’t do the maze. The food line must have had 50 people waiting to order. Then you wait to pick up your order. $16 for a burger. The coconut water was $12. The focus was on shopping their products.

Way overpriced and most of the candies and stuff were made in Taiwan. Not even in Hawaii!! It is definitely a tourist trap.

Tourist Trap
It is extremely overpriced- $7.50 for a cone, but we still always visit. Fun to shop at the store and we did the train when we visited with our kids. Should do at least once. There are beautiful cats running around which the tourists seemed to like- but Dole staff/management - can someone put out a few bucks and make sure they are vetted?! One kitten looked in rough shape. And I think there is at least one pregnant one- please get them fixed and let them do their jobs and keep your rodents at bay.

Overcrowded with long waits. The 25 minute line to buy the train ticket to wait one hour for the train is apparently acceptable to the owners of this site. It’s disappointing. Perhaps if you didn’t have one train running every 20 minutes it would suck so bad

The train ride is great. The garden tour used to be wonderful, it wasn’t great this time of year. Needed some upkeep. Would have suggested the maze instead but unfortunately didn’t do it. Food expensive but good. Lots of tourists. The pineapple cashews were delicious!

Not much to see. We walked through the botanical garden and there wasn’t much of a variety. Som of the plants looked like they were not thriving. The Wi-Fi for the audio tour didn’t work and there was a jackhammer at work the entire time. Very noisy We didn’t take the train because it seemed like the same excursion as every other sugar plantation, coffee plantation or such

Whilst the gift shop is full of fun souvenirs, do not waster
your money on the train ride. It’s an adventure for small kids but nothing to see and not worth the money.

I have been on this tour twice. Once when my two boys were younger then again as adults. Because we brought two new people with us. We all had a great time. Love eating some dole whip with the chickens after the train ride. We also had a good time in the maze.

What a nice visit. Maze was big and a challenge but fun. Enjoyed the gardens. Birds and flowers. Huge snails and little geckos. Koi pond was fun to feed. Got a pineapple smoothie. Big gift store so wife bought bunch of stuff. Good place to spend a couple hours.

One of the ‘must see’ attractions (that’s what we were told) when visiting Hawaii. Had a great train tour of the plantation and learned all about growing pineapples. There is a huge store with ‘everything pineapple’ and you can get your fill of Dole Whip.

This facility was amazing! We took the Pineapple Express train and learned about the local produce of Hawaii. We did have the Dole Whip with pineapple and it was outstanding. The shopping here is nice too! It's a must see, at least for the sweet treats!
