Murphy's Beach has always been touted as a good place to snorkel. However, it is on the inside of the reef and very shallow that you hit you feet on the bottom. There are also not many fish at all to view.

This is the best beach to visit in the winter months. Make sure to go during higher tide, otherwise it's quite shallow. Decent snorkeling. It would be nice if there was bathrooms/porta-potties, but you can't have everything. Lots of parking, but you pretty much have your choice of space on the beach. Nice view of Maui's northwest shoreline.

Gorgeous sandy beach and often we were the only ones there. The sand was a little abrasive but so beautiful and shallow.

This south side beach is protected enough that kids can go into the water in the area of the sandbar, and has some nice, albeit shallow, snorkeling. The sand falls off abruptly into a veritable garden of coral, with lots of interesting fish, sea cucumbers, lacey tube worms, etc. The bottom is shallow, generally under 3 feet, so be careful.... This easy to find beach (just past mile marker 20 on the highway to the east of the island) was well suited to families. There were a few local families and a couple holidayers there. It is rocky underfoot so if you have tender feet (like we all do in my family) water shoes are a must. The water is... More

Nice sandy beach but plenty of stones for the first few meters when you enter the water. There are no facilities.
