The 1,200 Iao needle just seems to catch your eye, it did mine

When you look at Maui's many sights and iconic places to visit, one of the most recognizable landmarks, the 1,200-foot Iao Needle stands out. So much in fact, that in the short... read more

Iao Valley is another must visit on Maui. A deep cleft valley above Wailuku, the valley was the last stand for the troops loyal to the last Maui King before the Hawaiian troops under Kamehameha decimated them in this very valley. You hike up to the observation point with the Iao Needle, a large monolith to your back, and a... More

a sacred site that is worth your time, the Iao needle is majestic and the hike to see it is short but steep.

When you look at Maui's many sights and iconic places to visit, one of the most recognizable landmarks, the 1,200-foot Iao Needle stands out. So much in fact, that in the short time we were in Maui, it became a must do place to see and visit and I'm glad we did. We were there in May and in September... More

I am a beach bum for sure, but have to keep my people happy and do other things, too! Our visit to this spot was not high on my list but certainly has redeeming qualities which will be enjoyed by others. It is quintessential in-land island beauty at its finest, with the lush green surroundings and river. They day we... More

The area was closed because of previous flooding. We did not know this and drove 40 min. to get here. Were not able to see much. A lot of heavy construction equipment around the site.

Mother Maui offers so many healing corners and this is one which is very impressive. I went with a couple girlfriends and had a magical time, as we ran into some other friends unexpectedly! It can be romantic or just awe-inspiring!

I'm sure it still is. I haven't seen it since the flooding. I believe it's still closed, but once it reopens please visit. The river and views are spectacular.

We stopped by here and were glad we did. Neat place with a unique history. It was a bit cloudy while we were there, which we found is common, but still very beautiful and enjoyable. The stair case up to the best view is pretty steep for some, but I was able to do it (with a neuro/balance disorder) with... More

Temporarily closed due to road and parking lot wash out from big storm. Amazing hike. Great stream to cool down. Check to be sure it has reopened before heading that way.

Grew up coming here often. Fresh water, hiking and important cultural information abound. The story of Iao Valley is unique, beautiful and, at times, dark. It is a huge part of Maui culture and history. If you keep it clean, don't litter and don't take more flowers than you need, then this place will continue to be a beautiful place... More
