About
Hit Lahaina’s scenic seafront main street for endless shopping, eating, nightlife and people-watching amid historic buildings and scenic views of the neighboring islands. You can grab some shaved ice before snagging some artisanal local handicrafts, sweet deals at the Outlets of Maui or checking out the fine art galleries that line Front Street.
Along the way, don’t miss the Banyan Court Park and Hawaii's largest banyan tree which spans 1.94 acres and is over 150 years old. During the winter season, you can consider a whale-watching tour that departs from Front Street too. – Tripadvisor

- romadaroWashington DC, District of Columbia1,567 contributionsA Pleasant Way to End the DayGreat way to end the day. We always go to one of the restaurants in the vicinity for dinner and then get a Dole Whip, ice cream or gelato and spend the rest of the evening browsing the shops. Always the perfect end to the day.Visited December 2022Written 17 December 2022
- BC Gal39 contributionsCute but like anywhere elseHave loved visiting Front Street in the past, but this visit, we shopped elsewhere earlier in the week. Here, we saw more of the same things for sale but for more money. It was also very busy and parking was a little nuts. We'll give it a miss next visit, but if you've never gone, it's fun to come and walk around. The Banyan Tree is a fave spot to visit.Visited December 2022Written 4 January 2023
- Leanne D21 contributionsNot sure what the hype was abourVery disappointed. Typical of any small town near the beach, streets are narrow, lots of one ways, constant traffic. Now that can be overlooked if there is some great shopping or some other draw. The banyon tree was interesting, some good tours go out from there, but the shopping was nothing to brag about. Jewelery stores sold the same thing you could get anywhere, the shops sold gelato, snacks and stuff I could get anywhere. We drove the area multiple times, most of the streets, looking for a nice shop to get something memorable as we had dedicated the day to it and had we not had a great tour from there it would have been a waste of a day. The city needs to step up and tend to some seriously needed repairs. My husband walks with a cane and it was like walking thru a mine field of uneven sidewalks that had chunks missing. We went, we saw, id not return except for the tours.Visited January 2023Written 29 January 2023
- TootleLou2Oak Grove, Minnesota134 contributionsJust okayToo touristy for me. Too many people, too hard to find parking and same stuff in most stores (and overpriced). I felt like I was at a overpriced flea market. My husband went here 23 years ago and was excited to go. He was quite disappointed in it with all the changes. Banyan tree was an interesting stop but everything else was eh .. uneventful.Visited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 February 2023
- PePpEgAdrian, Minnesota79 contributionsFront Street - big variety of things to do,eat & see !Love love Front street. All the different little shops, places to eat, people watching & learning some history is all on front street. And there is the Banyan tree that takes up a square block. The harbor is where a bunch of tours leave from.Visited January 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 February 2023
- Elise SMastic Beach, New York2,854 contributionsYou can visit Maui and not visit Front St. in LahainaLots to do and see on Front Street. Beautiful views at sunset. Good restaurants. Lots of history to visit. The only negative thing is that on our last visit, we noticed quite a few homeless people compared to our previous visits, which we found very sad.Visited January 2023Written 13 February 2023
- Gail P4 contributionsHighly recommend! Scenic, historic, bustling.Very beachy small town feel. Loved browsing through all the art galleries here. Old Courthouse here but I was too late to visit. Next time I plan to eat at the fish house restaurant on the ocean there. There were other restaurants here, all full. Good live music at one location. Water tours leave out of here too if you're interested. I will be returning!Visited March 2023Written 22 March 2023
- janetc757570 contributionsOK but touristyThis is good if you're interested in browsing a lot of touristy shops or looking for a restaurant to eat at, because there are plenty of both here. Views of the water are nice, too. You can park for free at the outlets and then walk up and down the street.Visited March 2023Travelled soloWritten 8 April 2023

Check out the oldest Banyan Tree (incredible large and branches expand along the whole park), museum, art gallery with local work that is affordable) and fun shops and restaurants up and down front street. It’s a great place to just explore and walk. Pay to park. Sunsets at harborare gorgeous!Visited April 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 17 April 2023

We had been told that the best shopping on Maui was on Front Street and they were right. There were a lot of great stores. While some were selling the same t’shirts and touristy things, there were also a lot of specialty stores. We ended up doing most of our souvenir shopping on Front Street. We also stopped by the park to see the giant banyan tree, which was very cool. It’s a great place to spend a few hours!Visited April 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 29 May 2023

Watch out for cosmetic sales, ruining the shopping experience on Front Street. Very aggressive sales people are young and will not let go of you. Do not talk to them, if you do not only will they sell overpriced products it will feel like you are trapped unless you also purchase their expensive led light and even more expensive stem cell cream. They are not allowed to accost people on sidewalks though they do anyway.
The press reports these are foreign bad actors who make so much $ they don’t care what it takes.
On the positive side, I was able to get items at my favorite locally owned stores.

There is a small informative museum/ gift shop in the former courthouse, the buildings along Front street have been, for the most part preserved from the late 19th century, but for the most part, the crowds extinguish any charm this town could muster. It reminds me of most historic towns that have more or less been overwhelmed by their success.

It’s a very touristy street with a mixture of shops. These mainly sell the same things. The buildings are pretty to look at. When we were there it was very busy. Not many places to sit down.

We enjoyed walking to the little shops just browsing. We stopped initially for Shaved Ice which was refreshing and tasty. There are many small art galleries with amazing artisan displays .
We had a drink at Kimos Bar delicious carrot bread lettuce wraps with pork and coconut shrimp. The service and food were great and nice outside seating with Ocean View . Quaint and relaxing.

A definite “touristry” street, but also one which brings back a hint of old Hawaii. One of the few places on Maui that can give a glimpse of Hawaii 50 years ago.

A real joy to walk around the area looking at the shops and grabbing snacks on the way. Can be quite busy on certain days or if a cruise ship is off port.

Are shops open on Christmas?

No idea. Sorry. I would surmise however that the shop
keepers want to enjoy Christmas as well and most folks assume that everything is closed on Christmas, so....I’m guessing that they are closed.
I am on the Pride of America in their port. I want to visit Lahania. What is the best way to get there. Any idea on the price to get to the town from the ship. How long will it take to get there?

Are you docked at Kahu’lui? If that’s so , an Uber will cost you about 120 bucks . You can rent a car with unlimited miles from budget for them price . The drive is about 45 minutes
How expensive is traveling. Car,uber,bus?

We had a rental car. Couldn't find a free parking spot near Front Street in Lahaina so gave up and paid $15 to park in a lot for a few hours.

Our cruise ship just added Lahaina as a stop from 8a to 6p. What would you recommend to do since we just have this short period.

Lots to do in Lahaina for a day. Definitely walk Front street; from banyan tree up to Methodist church, go up one side then back down the other. Many shops along the way. Take your time and browse. Cool Cat Cafe is a good place for a burger. Visit the history museum at Banyan tree park; its nice and its free. Take the bus from Lahaina and go up to Whalers Village just four miles away, ($2 dollars each way). Here you can shop or take a walk along Kaanapali beach. Really nice sandy beach. The beaches are public and free; parking is limited and expensive. No alcohol on beaches. Roads can be crowded and congested so watch times if going south to attractions any distance away.

The one on H-30 coming into Lahaina from the south appears to be open daily and most of the day. The one I know better is on the Lower Honolopoli road, about 1/2 mile up from the split with H-30. It is open Monday / Wednesday / Friday from 7 or 7:30 to about 11.
are the shops open on Saturdays in old lahaina town

Yes. Super shops. On Friday evenings all the galleries are open late and serve wine and cheese. Shop till you drop. The outlet shops are a ton of fun.

Where is the least expensive place to park if all street parking is taken, as is the free public parking lot on Prison and Front
PeggyDuncan327
El Centro, CA25 contributions
The least expensive is the outlet parking lot behind Ruth's Chris. If you make any purchase in the outlet you get a ticket which will give you free parking or at least reduced parking.
