A friend from the Pacific Northwest came to visit and was awe struck with everything we saw and did. WalkING several easy trails, gazing into the crater, noting the flora and siting was birds made it a thrilling day!

The drive is gorgeous. Take the time to pull off at the scenic lookouts. There isn't really anything at the top except for the observation station and a million photo-ops, but you can stop at the visitor's station - the people working there were super...More

Glad we woke at 2 to leave at 3am. Recommended from Wailea/Kihei area. Must make a reservation as soon as 2 months in advance, some available two days prior online as well. It is chilly, but the shelter helps shield the wind. I'm always cold...More

On advice of friends back in Texas, we scheduled a morning trip to Haleakala to see the sunrise. The more we thought about the long lines, difficult road, and early start (you have to start around 3 am), we opted for the sunset trip. The...More

Our family loves visiting national park service sites and Haleakala National Park was no different. We visited the Kipahula district first and saw the 7 sacred pools (Ohe'o Gulch) and hiked the Pippiwai trail through the bamboo forest to Waimoku Falls. Admission to the park...More

The terrain, especially near the top, is so drastically different from other parts of Maui, dry and without trees. The cinder fields are phenomenal. The road is winding and has great views. At the top is a kind of shelter with informational signs about the...More

We'd like to visit Haleakala but not drive there ourselves. Are there simple tour companies that can take us to/from our hotel? I am not inquiring about the sunrise tours where one must awake ~2:30. I'm hoping for a sunset tour or simply a daily visit.

Absolutely! The easiest way is to check with the concierge of your hotel / facility and they can make arrangements for cost and pick up. If your place does not have a concierge, there are numerous tour companies around... More

Do you have to hike around or are there lookouts with great views for photo ops? And can you drive to the top?
