Brilliant that it's self-guided and they let you explore it by yourself. They provide you with a strong torch/flashlight per person - entrance fee is $12.50 per adult which felt expensive at first but great value once we had completed it. So so interesting, some good signage within the tube explaining the different parts of it that you're walking through.... More

This is not the main reason to come to Hana, but if you can spare 45 minutes and looking for something real different, this is it. The pros: fascinating science, in remarkable condition, very odd stalactites/stalagmites, good size and length of cave, bonus botanical maze also outside, good flashlights provided. The cons: no colorful formations, stalactites/stalagmites are very small, not... More

We drove the road to hana on a cloudy mostly overcast day and decided to check out the lava tubes. For only $12.50 per person, this was our cheapest excursion by far. It was a neat self guided tour that allowed us to explore the largest caves on the Hawaiian Islands. It was a nice break from the windy narrow... More

We basically went all the way up the Hana highway to see these lava caves. The trip was a resounding success! The destination was worth the effort according to my fellow travellers. The path through the cave is certainly well explained step by step. The owner has developed this site over 20 years with his own bare hands. It's a... More

The Hana Lava Tubes were the most unique stop on the Road to Hana. It is a nice change of pace from waterfalls and vistas and generally being in the car. It is about a 5 minute drive off the highway and has free parking. For $10/person you get a flashlight to go explore the cave. It is really fascinating... More

When lava flows toward the sea, the outer shell hardens, while the lava insight created a cave - a lava tube. If you can't see the one of the Big Island, definitely see this one.

This was a pretty interesting attraction to walk through while on trip to Hana. Cost was cash $12.50 per person. It is pretty damp and wet (water dripping from the ceiling) but what do you expect for being in a lava tube? Your flashlights that are provided when you are checking are the only sources of light with the exception... More
