Always great to visit. The new Visitor's Center is a wonderful addition. Pi'ilanihale Heiau is impressive. Needs more signage explaining everything. Staff is very helpful. Be sure to check out the beautiful bathroom facilities which were built with the help of local students - as...More

The Kahanu garden is exceptionally well kept. The grounds are beautiful and covered with a variety of fruit trees and other vegetation, some indigenous and some not to the island of Maui. The sacred grounds of the chiefs is also quite interesting to see as...More

This was by far our favorite stop while doing the Road to Hana. Peaceful, calm, and really interesting stuff about Hawaiian culture.

Interesting garden with nice walking tour booklet ($10/person). Two miles down partly gravel road, but nice to leave the Hana-bound crowds behind. Largest heiau on island; used to be a royal site. Lovely sea views. Watch out for those falling coconuts!

Don't expect beach access here, but do expect amazing beach/ocean/wave views. That isn't why we came--we wanted to see the plants and the 500-ish year old Hawai'ian structures, both of which are great, with very helpful interpretive markers. Rough road to get there, but a...More
