In the spirit of full disclosure, our family has 3 adult children and not teenagers! But that was the closest choice given by Trip Advisor. My review wouldn’t change anyway.

Cruising down the side of a volcano with a minimum of pedal pushing is a perfect activity for a low effort, outdoor way to see the Maui countryside. There are many bike companies offering this in Haleakala Volcano Park, but we chose Bike Maui based on other reviews. You meet in the parking lot next to Haiku market and after helmet issue, you enjoy a 45 minute mini-coach ride to your “launching point”, about 6500 feet above sea level. Shout out to our driver/ guide Kimo who entertained and educated us driving up the volcano. Frequent stops to taste fresh fruit, wild fennel seeds, and to survey wild avocado trees plump with fruit earned him a “merit badge”!

The ride itself involves a couple of hours of no effort coasting down a hill. You only have to brake, steer, and keep your eyes on the road! You will pass through fields with horses and cows, pass clumps of native bougainvillea and hibiscus, and ignore the cars and trucks passing you with great respect for your space.

Ride Maui’s bikes were excellent. Well maintained with state of the art hydraulic brakes and comfortable seats. No complaints here and we’re glad to say we’re very happy with their ride.

Love this bike ride. We’ve done it several times. It’s SO easy - downhill the whole way, beautiful scenery, stopped in Makawao for donuts and shopping. Just a lovely way to spend the morning on Maui. Highly recommend. And this tour company is great - reliable and they think of everything. They have backpacks and gloves and all the rain gear you might need. They are also on call if anything goes wrong or if you just change your mind and dont want to do the ride. THANK YOU!

Bike Maui took a corp group of us 1/2 way to Hana. Tour guy was great and super informative. Drove safely. They provided 1 water and driver stopped so we could grab coffee at a local shop, rain gear and had some snacks for us. Van was comfortable. Enough time was allotted and he would ask the group if we were interested in stopping or taking photos. Kalei was our driver he did a great job!

Very disappointing! Tour is advertised as 28 mile bike ride down the volcano and in reality you can not bike from the top because it is a National park, you bike about 6 ish miles that are descent and then have to get back on a bus and bike last portion through local town that is busy with local traffic, no dedicated bike lanes, very busy and not a pleasant ride. The bottom cuts to the tour happened recently in February of ‘23 but no one let us know before hand about it, price is outrageous compared to the amount and quality of biking that you will do. All the staff is very nice but it is not worth the money.

Mahalo for your feedback. The county law was passed recently, and unfortunately our ability to spread the information prior to these changes were limited by the short notice. We did so as soon as we could. We are finding ways to improve this tour and are looking forward to providing a great experience to all our guests.

Did the Haleakala Summit tour. It was worth getting up early and seeing the sunrise. The views were breathtaking. It was cold but you are provided with wind pants/jacket and vest. We did the riding tour and visited surrounding towns and learned all about the history of Maui. Corey was our tour guide and was very knowledgeable.

We had a beautiful sunny day, so views were amazing. Our guide Dan was very informative about the history and area of the volcano and kept us entertained ( pun jokes).
I was very apprehensive about the bike ride, having suffered an elbow fracture from a crash, and limited biking since accident. But the bikes and gear were great. Main reason I choose the self guided tour, so I could go at my own pace. Husband, avid cyclist, had a blast.

Epic views exhilarating ride, great for the whole family. From start to finish the team made everything easy and fun. Gearing us up and giving instructions then a fun ride up the mountain. Our driver Kimo was great. Very knowledgeable, pointing out tons of cool local fruit trees, telling fun stories, and giving us history for the local area. (Beep beep, WINNING)

Oh my gosh! I cannot say enough great things about Coach! Coach is a fantastic storyteller. He regaled us with stories of the history of Hawaii and Haleakala. He talked about the culture of Hawaii. He described the efforts being made on behalf of those who have Hawaiian lineage and preservation of the history by including more signs that denote historic areas of Maui. I could talk with him all day and never tire!

Took self guided trip and had a blast! Staff was exceptional and equipment top notch. Great tales of local history provided as we made our way up the volcano. Must stop at Komoda store and bakery on the way down for maladas. Thanks Bike Maui for a great experience!

This was our 4th time...each with a different set of friends. Hands down one of the best things to do on Maui and Haleakala Bike Company does it right. Any one of their bike tour options is something you will remember for a lifetime.
