Fun excursion

We had a great time on this bike ride and sunrise tour. Our guide was very charming and lively despite the early 3:00 AM start time. Right now one of the sections of the bike path is closed, but to make up for it we biked down the mountain twice. The company did email us about this change ahead of time. Definitely a one of a kind experience to see the sunrise and then explore by bike. Definitely worth stopping in Makawao to get some treats and look around!

Amazing time biking down the mountain
Had a great time with Bike- Maui, had to wake up incredibly early but got amazing views of the sunrise. Our bus driver, Eddie, was very knowledgeable and hilarious, and there is nothing like biking down a volcano!

The experience is very weather dependent. Unfortunately we went on a day where it was light rain the entire time and very foggy so you couldn’t see more than 20’ ahead of you. The company lost a section of the ride so you do the switchbacks twice. What was annoying was the fact that if you didn’t have to ride it twice, you still had to WAIT for multiple trips/vans, load back up, and head back to the top of the switchback to ride again. Since it was raining on us, my wife and I opted to not ride for a second time down the switch back but still had to go back up to the top and ride the van down. We had a terribly slow couple in our group which made our wait to even longer. Feels like half of our time was spent waiting on someone/something.

The workers clam that the weather changes every 5 minutes on the mountain but it was pretty dang consistent for the 4 hours that we spent on it. What would have been nice is if the company would have warned of the bad weather and offered a different day to ride if preferred. Also would be nice to have an option if you didn’t want to ride the switchbacks 2 times instead of having to wait. Also note that this ride isn’t actually in the National Park, it is right outside of the entrance.

Only reason I gave this a 3 star is because the people were very nice and tried their best to make our experience a positive one. I’m sure it would have been if we had nicer weather.

Website is misleading for what you actually do and what they provide.

Wear warm clothes they actually do NOT provide gloves or vests! Expect to spend most of your time in a van. Didn’t ride “down the mountain”. The bike ride is about 2 miles then load up in the van again. A lot of waiting around. The sunrise was beautiful but the bike part was very disappointing.

This information is not accurate. The ride is about 7 miles on the first section, 7 miles on the 2nd section, and 6 miles on the final section, total is over 20 miles of biking. The website information was updated upon the effective date of the ordinance that regulated biking in the town of Kula. Updates we sent via email to all our existing reservations.

Amazing views!

The sunrise self guided bike tour down Haleakala was amazing!! Our tour guide up was Rory and he by far was the best! Super knowledgeable and taught us history along the way. Loved that we could do as we wanted towards the end.. stopped in a little city and ate lunch! An experience like no other!

Stunning Sunrise
Yes, it's really early and really an amazing sunrise! Pickup from hotels, or by pier for cruises, was efficient. Obviously, dark on the excursion there with steep and winding roads-- glad I was not driving. Our driver was overly talkative and comedic that early, but I didn't have coffee yet either. Stunning view with the locals Hawaiian prayer/song/chant making even more memorable.

Awesome experience. Very early pickup from hotel (1:45am) Engaging staff with lots of information and humor. Would suggest providing some water and snacks for such a long day. I did this same tour 40 years ago!Routes were better then!

What a great welcome to Hawaii

The guides made this tour top notch, as well as the great bikes and rain gear provided that I put on for the much needed final layer as protection from the wind. Marlon’s on time pick up (and welcoming ways) & orientation was much appreciated. After the beautiful sunrise, Russell’s bike tour was a blast! His knowledge and enthusiasm for the natural wonders was a great complement to Marlon’s history education. There’s something extra special about these people who make their jobs seem enjoyable and the whole experience was top notch, thanks to our guides.
