Hiking to get to see the amazing views took about 1.5 - 2 hours and it was well worth it. The trails are fairly well marked as well. Note we got to one of the lookout points early. The views are still good but with the morning sun the pictures might not be as clear/crisp vs. taking pictures after midday.... More

We were staying near Hanelai (north) with four young children and wondered whether it was worth the two hour trip to get to the top of the canyon - in short, it absolutely was. It was almost the highlight of our trip. We'd been given the tip off to get there at 7 or 8am as the clouds tend to... More

This was a true gem on our trip to Kauai, there is not enough space to write all we saw and to tell how many times we were mesmerized by mother natures beauty....a beauty on god can create. From waterfalls....to endless mountainous views....with no details left out. Winding you way to the top wondering where do you stop or not...breathtaking... More

We went around 12pm. We had beautiful weather. Our rental car company upgraded us for free to a convertible. This led to even better views on the drive there from Lihue. Pack a lunch and picnic near one of the vistas. There are restrooms at the viewpoint look out at the peak. There was also a fruit stand with some... More

Try and go early to Wamea Cayon and hope for good weather. A good and fun activity for the entire family. Beautiful views are every where and some are simply breathtaking. There are numerous spots to stop to see the beautiful canyon. A great way to see the canyon is by helicopter where every view is terrific. One of the... More

We got to the park at 10:00 and it was too late to see anything. All the lookouts were covered by clouds. On our drive up it was clear (around 9 a.m - before we entered the park). We should have checked the weather before going because it rained on the entire island that day. Fortunately we saw the Canyon... More

Easily accessible for all ages! You are able to drive to the canyon, park and walk a very short distance to see the gorgeous canyon. It is the grand canyon of Hawaii and it is a view you Don't want to miss!!! I would recommend that everyone put this on their bucket list!

We spent two days in Waimea Canyon (staying at Camp Slogett for 2 nights). While we unfortunately had a lot of rain, we were still able to keep ourselves very engaged with hikes, patiently waiting at overlooks for the clouds to clear, and enjoy the cooler temperatures in a very jungle type environment. We did finally get to see the... More

The best way to see this canyon is to drive one self there. By driving a person stop at the various look out places along the way and stay at each point interest as long as one would like to. There are great points along the way that are great for the taking of pictures. The views remind me of... More

You can drive or take a tour. There is no charge for a self-guided tour. Facilities are available at the top. I recommend taking different roads up and back. This gives a differing perspective to the scenery. In one direction you get a good perspective of the Canyon with a view of the coast line from another. There are hiking... More
