We made it out to Polihale beach about 2 minutes before sunset. It was gorgeous! It was a dirt/sandy road to get to the beach, but it wasn't bad in a minivan. This stretch of beach was SO long. I wish we had more time, but it was getting dark pretty quickly.

Spent the entire dawn to dusk day at Polihale State park to absorb nature and appreciate the vast diversity of Kauai. This park is a must see for travelers who usually do not go to the beach for crowds, kids and noise. The echoing thunder of waves, wind and warmth of the sunshine tell the stories of the ancient Hawaiians... More

This state park is literally the end of the road. Accessible from highway 50 and then a 6 mile rough gravel, sand, lava road that will shake your innards and damage sedans not driven carefully. That said the views of the south end of the Pali Coast and the endless beach with heavy surf at times makes this a desirable... More

They paved the road a little better than last time I was here but today I helped pull a man and his family out of the sand on the way there. I made it fine in my Jeep Compass and I would highly recommend a SUV Definitely a sight to see

Beautiful beach with a tough drive getting there. Beach is miles long and you'll feel isolated. Not always safe for swimming but always worth the view. The beer - well the beer is for when you travel the 5 mile dirt, potholed filled road and get stuck you put the beers on the hood of you car and the locals... More

When it's raining on the north and east coasts it's time to visit Waimea canyon and state parks. You start out st sea level and head up a winding road to about 3400 feet. The canyon looks about a half mile deep, amazing textures and colors. It's rated #1 and it's natural beauty justifies it

So unbelievable beautiful, not busy, extremely relaxing. The road to get there wasn't the worst we have ever seen, washbord areas and potholes. Just drive slow if you're not in a high vehicle (we took a camaro). Expect it to take awhile to get there driving at 6miles an hour for 4 miles but so worth it at the end.... More

A must see if you are visiting Kauai. I visited as the day was approaching sunset. A truly magnificent place to take in the environment and life!

If you have the guts bringing your rental car or 2wd SUV or 4x4 here, make sure it is not on a rainy day. There was a light rain on my first attempt and I almost got stuck on the trail itself. A good section of the trail after the asphalt road is made of slippery clay, I was barely... More

if you do not want to go to a beach that is at the beginning of the Napali Coast, that is a thing of majesty, go to "baby beach" in Poipu. Do not come here if you want to go to a beach that is easily accessable, it is a 5 mile drive over very rough unimproved road. Instead travel... More
