If seclusion is your thing, this is your place. Long white sand beach that's often all yours at night. Waves and currents here can be treacherous,so use extreme caution when swimming. No shade here and it can be quite hot. But if you bring lots of water and sunscreen, you can have a wonderful time. Be careful driving on the... More

We had a great afternoon at Polihale--just please don't mention it to Hertz or Avis. Polihale's beach stretches for as far as the eye can see and the water is perfect Hawaii. On the cusp of the Napali Coast the scenery is awesome and you have a clear view of Niihau too which is cool. What isn't cool is the... More

We have been to Kauai 5 times but never ventured out to the end of the road on the west side. This time we did and glad we made the little adventure. At the end of the highway you take the dirt road to your left which is clearly marked with a Polihale State park sign. The dirt road is... More

It's a bit of a drive to get here but we really enjoyed the enormous beach and playing in the waves. It's easy to find your own space because it's so big. Not too many people anyways, and they seem to be mostly locals. It's shallow for a ways out but the current can be strong. We were easily able... More

This was our 6th trip to Kauai and our first trip to Polihale State Park. It is the westernmost point on the island accessible by car. Per online recommendations, we rented a jeep and it was a good thing because the 5 mile road going in was really bad - lots of deep ruts, we were bouncing all the way... More

We made the adventurous drive to Polihale State Park twice! We loved the beach so much. We didn't swim in the water as the waves were really big, but we had fun playing in the waves and finding sea shells. The ride to the beach is extremely bumpy, but is well worth it! My favorite spot in Hawaii so far.

The last 5 Miles of the drive to Polihale is a very poorly maintained dirt road with many holes and dips. The drive out there is like being in a washing machine, but when you get there, your jaw will drop with the beauty.

You know why you spend the extra $25 /day on insurance for your car? So you can be on a pristine beach, next to a gorgeous backdrop on a fairly empty beach. Do it, live a little - and don't complain about the drive. It makes it fun!

The road to the beach is awful! Needs to be paved or at the very least, throw some gravel down! The view at the end is well worth it though!

It was extremely beautiful but a nearly 5 mile ride on a very poorly maintained dirt road with ruts and holes means you'll want to have an appropriate car to drive to the spot and be willing to spend nearly an hour going just 5 miles on the road due to its condition. Would not recommend driving back on this... More
