We were lucky to have a small group tour (5) of this very interesting and historical site in Kauai. Our docent or guide, who was originally from the mainland, had lived on the island 40+ years and was married into one of the local families. The telling of the history of the estate went into only the positive aspects of... More

On the second Thursday of every month Grove Farm starts up its beautifully restored 1887 vintage cane hauling steam locomotive "Paulo" and offers free rides. The volunteer engineer and other people there are passionate about the history of Paulo and very friendly and knowledgeable about the history of the Grove Farm and it's steam locomotives. They are in the process... More

We feel very fortunate to have discovered this attraction and booked a tour in advance. Well worth the time and donation. Exceptionally well preserved and visitor friendly. Historical significance which was easy to grasp and remember as a reference for the remainder of our 9 day stay in Kauai. Special Place Not to be missed.

Was driving by and saw the sign advertising free entry and decided to take a look. If you want to see a glimpse of Kauai's past then this is the place to visit! I walked around by myself for a little while looking into all the buildings around the property. When I got to the main house I was greeted... More

After several years of talking about it, we finally got to see Grove Plantation Farm in Lihue. It consists of a cluster of buildings that made up the estate. From the excellent guides you learn about Kauai in the early contact years -- its early life as a sugar cane plantation, its evolution over time, and the family that owned... More

So I love Kauai I have been coming here for nearly twenty years and after some time and developing a deep affection for the place, I wanted to know more. We had stumbled on Grove Farm on our last trip to Kauai four years ago and walked the grounds. Upon visiting the office we learned about their tours but our time was short and the tours required reservation well in advance. We put it on our to do list for this trip, went to the website and made our reservation... More

This is a lovely museum on an historic property just above Nawiliwili Harbor in Lihue. The tour requires a reservation and goes through several old homestead buildings from an early sugar cane plantation on Kauai. The main house has an extensive collection of antiquities and artifacts dating from the time of the early Hawaiians. In addition, there are wonderful old... More

Grove Farm should not be missed. It is a fascinating insight to the history and life on a plantation in Hawaii. The main buildings are like a time capsule with original furnishings and collectibles - unchanged from the time it was handed over as a museum. It is not available except on a guided tour but so worth while as... More

This large piece of property had so much going on. There was the initial residence of the plantation owner, his office, the gorgeous home built for his brother who later managed the plantation, a guest cottage, a niece's office clinic, the small cottage for the Japanese woman who helped in the house for her entire adult lifetime, an old barn,...
