Bouncing across the swinging bridge can be amusing
Sep 2021
The town has attracted creative talented individuals.
Art galleries, shops, restaurants, and a bakery-restaurant kept me returning to the town after my hikes in Kokee and Waimea State Park.
I drove and walked around the town to see it’s personality.
The colorful trees with flowers cheered me up.
The painted art on an antique car brought a smile to my face.
Bouncing across the swinging bridge can be amusing.

Fun for my 4 year old
Aug 2021 • Family
We stopped to check out the swinging bridge on our way back from Waimea Canyon. It was literally less than a 10 minute stop to walk across and back over the Hanapepe river on the swinging bridge and to snap a few pictures. My 4 year old was both scared and amazed, so that was fun. Worth the quick stop if you’re in the area, but I wouldn’t drive across the island for it.

A neat experience

Fortunately Hanapepe hasn’t been commercialized like Lihue and Kapa’a have been. This is a fun thing to do whether old or young. You get a small taste of Hawaiian history walking across the bridge and back.

Swing by the Swinging Bridge
Mar 2020
The Swinging Bridge may not be a tremendous highlight of your Kauai trip, but if you find yourself in Hanapepe (which you should) please take a moment and walk across. It provides an unique experience and is worth the diversion.

When we visited there was an art vendor at the opposite end and although we did not purchase anything the photography was great.

Fun

This bridge swings quite a bit. On your way to Waimea stop for 10 minutes to see the cute town of Hanapepe and check out this bridge.

Something out of the ordinary
Sep 2019
On our way to Waimea Canyon we went through the quaint town of Hanapepe which has a swinging bridge over the Hanapepe River. It's a foot bridge connecting the business and residential sections of the town. It wasn't in our plans to stop, but hey, why not, we're here on vacation. It made a nice photo opt and we shopped in some of the local stores. Not a destination to go out of your way for, but if you're close and have some time, stop and see it. A good way to help support the local businesses too.

Swinging bridge over a river
Feb 2020
I mean - what can I say? It's a swinging bridge. It goes over a river. It's not that high up which is a good thing because it really does swing! But it's fun to scare yourself a little bit. And it makes for a good photo op. If you're stopping in Hanapepe anyway, check it out. There is a little place selling art out of their home right across the bridge that is worth a visit too.

10 minute visit, go when on way to anther attraction
Mar 2020
Wanted to go see the swinging bridge, a must see for us. Not the big attraction we were expecting. Stopped ere before going on catamaran trip out of Port Allen. Noboady there when we arrived at 7:30am. Took some pictures, crossed bridge out and back, made it swing and headed to Blue Dolphin charters. Total time at bridge 10 minutes. Glad we went but if that was the only attraction we would have seen after the ride from Kapa'a would have been dissappointed. My suggestion, if going on a Napali Coast boat ride or heading up to Waimea Canyon add a quick stop to the Swinging Bridge.

Swing bridge taken out by storm in Dec 2019
Feb 2020 • Couples
Check before you go, the town is lovely artsy and great little food joints including bakery are delicious, but if it a bridge you want, you probably won’t get it.
