We have been to Limahuli Garden 4 times and every time has been unique. The guides are all excellent, but I must say that this last tour was the best so far. Our guide was Nancy, who is one of the longest-serving volunteer guides. She's a plant expert and knows so much about the mission of the garden, which is... More

This is a must see for botanical garden lovers. Beautiful spot! We did the self-guided tour, which was great. Between the booklet and the signage, there is a wealth of information -- this was head-and-shoulders better than the info provided for McBryde Gardens. The walk is up and around a hill, with quite a few stairs, but as long you're... More

This place is worth visiting for the number of different flora alone but what really makes this place special is the way its set out. With the self guided tour your given a wonderfully produced guidebook which you follow as you climb into the valley stopping in each new location with many varied and beautiful plants.

This garden was the third of the three botanical gardens we visited ( Mcbryde a. nd Allerton - south shore). It is a magical place. The garden here has recreated not only the native plant habitats, but preserved and replanted the early Hawaiian plants. They have worked very hard to restore those plants that were almost extinct. Definitely worth a... More

There is more botanical information here than the typical Kauai visitor can take In, but oh what a beautiful way to spend part of your day. The walk is not hard for reasonably fit people but anyone with balance problems should not do it. There are lots of steps--some slippery. Benches, hiking sticks, and water stations are provided. You can... More

I can't believe only 3 landscapers are employed here, must have many volunteers. This garden is educational as well as beautiful. The trail is extremely well-maintained with so many terrific photo ops. Limahuli seems like an immaculate ancient garden surrounded by Jurassic Park. Invasive and near-extinct species well-lalbled and maintained. I could have spent a few more hours on my... More

Take water, comfy shoes, a hat, a camera, snacks, & sunscreen. The 1-2 hour tour takes you back in time so one can understand the evolution of what this area was, what it became, and what is being done now to take it back to its original purpose. Limahuli is only a part of the National Tropical Botanical Garden system... More

We chose this from the few botanical gardens on Kauai because of its focus on native vs. invasive species and a glimpse of Kauai's past cultivators. The self-guided tour took us an hour and a half climbing up and down a well marked trail. The guidebook given out with admission is a terrific reference with detailed descriptions, history and context.... More

There are various sections to the Preserve. I enjoyed learning about the original sustainable terrace agriculture. Most of Kauai's lush vegetation was introduced. The Preserve has a section of only native plants in the natural open area of the island, very different from the tall overgrown plants for which the island is known. Another section of the Preserve shows how... More

Exceptional views. Beautiful flowers in garden but you climb up the side of mountain. We took the guided tour and was well worth the cost. It was about a two hour tour. Guide told legend stories about rock formation etc.
