The area was badly damaged during the recent Hurricane that hit the islands, but is making a great comeback. The taro fields have been replanted and there have been a lot of birds return to the area. Take your time and take a slow drive...More

If you want to see birds this site will have many to see. The problem is finding the road. When you cross the one land bridge make the immediate left on to the narrow road and keep driving. Please drive very slow because the birds...More

We enjoy this slow and peaceful drive through the taro fields. You get a closer look at the stilts, mud hens, hawaiian ducks, nene', coots, and plovers. This year we were rewarded with a long look at a Tundra swan who had wandered into the...More

I was excited to find this little area for birdwatching in Hanalei. Worth a drive or two. No real birding sites beyond the taro fields so don't really recommend going all the way to dead end. Note that locals use this road in and out...More

Very quiet and peaceful place to visit. Out of the way with lots of wildlife. Bring your big repellent! Worth the visit and stroll.

I am sure this is a nice place by boat, but don't try to drive there. The map takes you to a dead end full of biting bugs.

You can't go off the road here, but the short drive with a Taro farm on one side and the bird refuge in the other is beautiful and peaceful.

You can see the Hanalei National Wildlife Refuge from the Hanalei lookout, but when you get to the bottom of the hill, just across the bridge there is a road that goes straight. It will take you along the refuge. There are a lot of...More
