We stopped on our tour of Volcano National Park and saw just smoke coming from the crater. We stopped again on our way back to Hilo in the evening. The viewing area is open 24 hours so we saw the red glow of lava after dark. The sky was so clear you could see so many stars without the light... More

Visiting Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park and the Thomas A. Jaggar Museum made me fall in love with science! We had just been to the southernmost point of the US and were making our way back to our hotel when we decided to stop. Boy, were we ever happy to have made this stop! Our plan had been to just take... More

We came a couple of times. First during the day/afternoon and it was packed with people and really rainy. Loved the gift shop and the rangers explaining everything about the volcano. We came back after dark and it was wonderful. I could have stayed and watched the lava erupting for hours. It was cold and wet, so bring warm clothing,... More

The highlight of Hilo sight is the volcano and right now since July 2016 the volcano is erupting. You can book a trip for 55 min on a helicopter or a boat Don't miss it

We are fascinated by volcanoes and lava, so we were very interested to visit this informative spot while hoping to see the glow from Kilauea Crater at night. Alas, it was too foggy for the latter, but we learned SO much about vulcanism in the Hawai'ian Island chain.

We went here to see the crater. We were lucky enough to see the lava in the lake, but we had to come 2 times to see it. The first time there were a lot of clouds so we did not see much. The next morning we decided to get up very early and have a look. We saw the... More

We arrived right at 9:00 for a wonderful movie at the visitors center and then on to this museum. It was drizzling but trying to clear. Good for taking pictures

A really good museum at a lookout point. Don't miss it. Excellent exhibits and displays that help you understand the Volcano and it's effects before you do any hiking.

We were on limited time but took a quick ride to the Jaggar Museum at Volcanoes National Park. We stopped in the visitors center where a very friendly and knowledgeable employee provide us with a map and told us the best areas to go to see volcano steam vents and actual hot lava being spit into the air (that day....not...
