The Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden is a 501(c)(3) Scientific and Educational non-profit, whose mission is to serve as a nature preserve and sanctuary, a living seed bank, and a study center for trees and plants of the tropical world. The Garden is dedicated to the collection and display of the world's tropical plants, and to the education of both children and adults about the plight of the world's rainforests. At a time when rainforest plants are disappearing at an alarming rate, the Garden is working to preserve as many species as possible for the benefit of future generations.

The Botanical Gardens was one stop of many on our Sunday out...This place was AMAZING! My hat goes off to the couple who created this magnificent place. The views especially from the oceanfront are breathtaking. I wasn't expecting the long haul but anyone visiting wear comfy shoes and be prepared to take many photos!

One of my favorite places on the island. About an hour ride from Waikoloa but worth it. Lush green tropical garden descends to the sea. Well kept. Easy hike. Manicured walkways

We have been to this garden twice. It is just wonderful!! If I lived in Hilo or nearby, I would visit often or buy a membership. There is a huge variety of plants, including various tropical trees, ferns, anthurium, bromeliads, ginger species, orchids, heliconia, hibiscus and many others. The garden's website is helpful in identifying these varieties. There are several waterfalls,... More

My husband and I found this gem 9 years ago and we make it a must stop when we visit the island. This was our 3rd visit. The tropical plants are amazing and the views of the waterfalls and ocean are to die for. I highly recommend making this a must stop. Once you are done make sure to stop... More

The botanical gardens offer a wide array of tropical plants from around the world. Nice signage identifies the majority of plants. The garden is a rather steep drop down in its decent, something to be aware of if you have bad knees. Conversely it's a zesty climb back up from the bottom of the garden that abuts the bay. Bring... T.he tropical plants are simply amazing the setting is perfect. There are streams, waterfalls and crashing waves of the ocean. Allow at least 2 hours to absorb this superb garden. It is worth every bit of the $18.00 admission

The bad thing: the golf carts. While it is wonderful that they are able to help people with limited mobility enjoy the garden, it was really a pain to have to keep stepping to the side and hear the noise. But other than that, this place is magnificent - lush gardens, incomparable views, orchids galore and the risk of falling... More

When I think botanical garden I think of manicured lawns with flowers and greenhouses. Fortunately, this is not that. This is truly an amazing area with numerous exotic trees, plants and flowers after the next in a very lush and naturalistic setting (despite the paved walkway). After making your way through these tropical wonders you are rewarded with a beautiful... More

This is actually for anyone who is visiting the island and who wants to get a sense of all the magical plants, trees, orchids, and bushes that are grown here. I live on this island and make a point of taking my visiting family and friends here because of its variety, beauty, and very different nature.

At first glance it didn't look like much, but we were soo surprised! The visit was WELL worth it. It's a beautiful garden that contains the most magical view of the cliffs, rocks, blow hole, and ocean...if you can make it down the trail. Most people were in the older age bracket and "tapped out" at marker #14 by asking... More
