Kehena is a wonderful beach, worth the short, steep hike. Definitely bring a beach bag or backpack for any items you need, as you will need your hands. It is a small area, like all beaches on the big island. The sand is black and...More

The beach is a bit hard to get to, straight down a rocky cliff. Half is nude, the other seems to be for families who don't mind the nude beach.

We were lucky to find a sunny day to spend on this very unique beach. The sand beach and water was glorious. The people were mostly locals with a few vacationers thrown in. About 3/4 were nude, and there was plenty of herbal smoking. The...More

Very interesting beach, not only because of the black sand. This is the hippie beach on Big Island, a lot of bare skin can be seen and all sorts of activities can be observed: playing the flute, meditating, doing handstand, smoking pot ... The water...More

It is oh so cool to see the black sand beach! There is minimal parking, a small trail to walk and a cliff to descend- Wear appropriate shoes. Clothing is optional on this beach, there are no facilities, and the water can be rough.

I love this beautiful beach, and the mellow people who hang out. I lost my wedding ring when a big wave knocked me over and dragged me a bit. I came up unhurt, but missing my wedding ring. I suppose there’s a possibility that the...More

Definitely one of the highlights of our trip. This is a pretty well hidden beach (no signage) with a somewhat harrowing climb down to it, but if you have researched it ahead, you know what to look for. Once you are on the beach, it...More

It's a great beach to chill, share ideas and meet other locals or visitors. Oh, many locals do go here and it's a clothing optional beach.

This was a spectacular beach. This beach caters mostly to the local community (a good mix of singles and families, gay and straight) and tourists who are very open about nudity. This is a family friendly beach. Families here are typically mixed, naked and not...More

The waves are big and the water is too...great for snorkeling here!. This is a clothing optional beach, so keep that in mind. Lots of life living in the waters and a protective 70 ft cliff wall behind you, help keep the wind and noise...More

The beach itself is not associated with a town, however, Pahoa, which is a cute, laidback little town with several restaurants and a few shops is only about 20 min north. We went from the beach to Pahoa for dinner, and then... More
