We found out that perhaps the best way to see the Kilauea lava flow into the ocean was by bike. It takes the same route as the hiking route, but being on a bike really speeds up the trip. Unlike a large resort on the...More

We chartered a six person boat ride out to the lava flows on the coast. It was a priceless experience. The trip out and back was quick and enjoyable. We even saw some spinner dolphins and our guide was kind enough to even stop and...More

We did the morning hike to surface lava flow. It was a real commitment: starting at 4 am and hiking over 2 hours each way over rough surfaces. But it was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Herbie, our guide, was great. Unquestionably worth the money and...More

As with any tour the guide really makes or breaks the experience. Jaci couldn't have been a better guide. It was great to see the enthusiasm even though she has to hike 20 km every day. Also seeing lava as close as you could handle...More

We rented bikes and rode out late afternoon. Took 30 minutes to get there and we picked $20 bikes. They were good and you need the 7 gears coming back. The gravel road is great but being a walker it is a bit of a...More

We just returned from doing this tour this week. The length of the hike varied day to day depending on where the surface lava is. It changes minute to minute. When we did the bike/hike the first time, the lava was less than... More
