When you’re accustomed to seeing white sand beaches, stepping onto this one is pretty spectacular. It’s shimmers in the sun and hoes jet black when the water hits it. The sand is tiny pieces of lava, so it’s grittier than regular sand. The water was...More

This place is really cool. It's easy to get to, the water is clean and the beach is in great shape. We also enjoyed seeing the sea turtles on shore.

Turtles lying on the beach pretty much all of the time. Wow. It was mostly cloudy the day we went and the water was a little rough for our liking but the snorkeling was pretty good anyway. Many turtles in the water and the fish...More

Beautiful beach with natural wading pools for small kiddos. Waves were a little rough when we went but I'm not sure if it was because of the time of year or if that is year round. The sea turtles were really neat to watch and...More

A short stretch of black sand beach with green sea turtles resting on the sand. A good place to spend a couple of hours. There're some big waves here, and also a lot of people photographing turtles.

This is a wonderful family friendly beach. In addition to the black sand, there are covered picnic areas, restrooms, rinse off shower, concession stand and a life quard.

I have been to numerous black sand beaches but this is seems to be the only “true” black color AND sand, not pebbles. Many so called black sand beaches are more pebbles or gravel. The majority of sand here is actually sand, very fine but...More
